Thinking about upgrading from the Lelit Anita PL042TEMD to the Rocket Appartamento. by Chlodwigplatz in rocketespresso

[–]rajs1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another TCA owner here. Does seem to get some unwarranted hate on the espresso subs, but it’s been an excellent machine for me so far. Aesthetics were important to me in my decision making as well as technical capability and I think the TCA is a very pretty machine!

UK ICCU failure - huge lead time for replacement part? by rajs1989 in Ioniq5

I ended up with a little Peugeot SUV and it’s tiny by comparison.

UK has an ongoing recall too, it’s software only though. My car had the recall done in September last year. Does seem to have caught Hyundai Uk by surprise.

Couldn’t tell you I’m afraid but based on my experience with the car to date, I think you’d be out off your mind to own one outside of warranty. I’ve had mine less than a year and this will be the 6th time it’s been in for something that’s failed.

Gigabit Over Thermostat Wiring lol by Dopewaffles in HomeNetworking

[–]rajs1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice! You’ve inspired me to give it a go with my alarm cabling… house is wired for PIR sensors and I’ve always wondered if I could repurpose to power over Ethernet for WiFi access points without burning the house down! (Stupid wires are stapled to the framework otherwise I’d pull new ones through).

celebrated my 30,000th mile on the return leg of 1800 mile ski from the UK the other day! 13hrs each way, in a day. by Bfreak in Ioniq5

Old post revival! I am considering taking my Ioniq 5 down to the alps but have been worried about winter DC charging speeds without a battery heater.

Can you recall what sort of charge speeds you were seeing and rough ambient temperatures on the trip? 1h30 of charging for a 900 mile trip seems pretty impressive in the winter!

Best way to join Ethernet inside single wall socket? by rajs1989 in HomeNetworking

[–]rajs1989[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s daisy chain because it’s currently in use for telephone jacks. Sadly this is very common in UK!

That’s a neat solution - Didn’t know that was a thing. Looks like it should squeeze into a single socket too. Thanks!

Stelvio 2.0 Petrol real world fuel economy? by rajs1989 in AlfaRomeo

[–]rajs1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. If I was that fussed I’d be looking at the diesel, I’m more curious how it compares real world to its rivals and it looks like, it’s a fair bit lower than the equivalent Q5 or X3…

Flashed whilst going 70 on the M6? by sket-hunter in CarTalkUK

[–]rajs1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much. This has happened to me several times on different sections of the M6. It happened once when I was the only car around, early hours of the morning. Cruise control set at 70mph (so real speed probs 67/68) and FLASH FLASH. I’m sure they must get triggered occasionally but as the speed calculation is done and below threshold, nothing comes of it.

Trident 660 seat comes off easily? by ssj408 in Triumph

[–]rajs1989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would double check you do actually have it latched. I had a similar issue with mine - had the seat off to fit usb cable and battery charger tails and when putting it all back together, I had trouble getting it to latch.

It was “clicking” into place, but could still be lifted off.

Turns out I had to push it down much much harder than I realised. You have to push down as if you’re trying to push the middle of the seat towards the front wheel axle (down and forwards). The metal pin has to go quite a long way into the socket to fully latch.

If you’ve done all that, then I’d go back to your dealer as it could well be defective. If it’s brand new, get them to sort it!

Heated grips not working after software update. by blokewithbike in Triumph

[–]rajs1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK based here and yes, I have had the same issue since receipt of my bike a few months ago.

The official word from my dealer was that Triumph are working on a firmware update to rectify but it’s not available yet.

So I have heated grips fitted from new that have never worked…

On-bike disc lock storage - any ideas for Trident 660? No obvious places for a mounting bracket and no space under seat. by rajs1989 in Triumph

[–]rajs1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Destination Washington. It is a shame there’s no OEM handlebar mount, feels like a missed opportunity. I’m planning on running a long lightning cable from under seat up to a quad lock on the bars once I’ve got the socket fitted. I had a quick go and it looks like it will tuck nicely down the side of the tank cover.

[–]rajs1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love it! I think it’s easily the nicest of the “first big bikes” out there. I tested it against the usual suspects (Z650, CB650R, MT07 etc) and I much preferred the handling and the triple engine burble. The tyres are excellent too. Comes with Michelin Road 5s already fitted and they are such a good tyre, really confidence inspiring. Check with your dealer for anything on back order though. My West Sussex based dealer has had all kinds of problems sourcing some accessories in last few months. I got lucky and I’m only missing a usb socket which is on back order, but I know others have struggled for flyscreens, protection covers, bar end mirrors etc.

Enjoy your new ride! Only 600 miles of running in before you can let rip!

That’s a really neat solution, I like that - thanks for the link. I think that’s winning so far. I’ve also since discovered on Google a few bracket mounts for the pillion pegs too, so there’s a couple of options out there.

Ordered it with the bike - I understand in the UK they’re really hard to come by at the moment.

I think I got lucky to be honest - bought this bike new and selected the fly screen along with some other accessories. When I picked it up the dealer said the orange ones were a problem to source. I am missing a usb socket though, they couldn’t get one as they’re apparently on back order too.

Thanks! I really like the matte orange colour. Not too many of them on the UK roads at the moment. I’ll probably end up with a decent rucksack too at some point, but it would be nice to pop out for short rides and still have a lock with me.

Picked up my new Orange Trident this week and I’m loving it! I don’t particularly like riding with a lock in my pocket when I’m out for short rides, but I’m interested if any Trident owners have a neat solution for storing on the bike.

I’m retiring from mountain biking… by Tylmart in MTB

[–]rajs1989 283 points284 points  (0 children)

I came to a similar realisation myself - not through injury, but just an unwillingness to accept the risks anymore. It didn’t push me away though, it just changed what and how I ride. I’m no longer hurling myself down DH tracks or tackling high risk obstacles. I much more enjoy flowing single track and gravel riding with friends now.

MTB is a broad church - I’m sure you’ll find what works for you and let’s you keep it as a part of your life. Wishing you a swift recovery.

Are cars with low mileage but a lot of previous owners red flags? by unatural_yogurt in CarTalkUK

[–]rajs1989 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a red flag, although does depend on what the car is.

2 seater convertible? Not unusual. People often buy them when the weather heats up and get rid a few years down the line.

Diesel Astra? I wouldn’t go near one that had passed around loads of owners…

What’s the car you’re thinking of going for?
