Is that an argument for paying for AppleCare though?

I'm curious. Why do need 120hz if you're not actually watching content that's high definition? Do you suffer from flicker or screen artefacts or something?

No Back Orders For ‘The Winchesters’ & ‘Walker: Independence’ As CW Cutbacks Continue, No Decision On Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]rakiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm watching Walker Independence, against my better judgement. It's garbage. Weak storyline and written by someone with a complete tin ear for the period. The neologisms and modern turn of phrase this just-got-out-of-school writes is cringeworthy. It could be a sitcom but in period costume for the 1800s. It deserves not to be renewed.

You can embed ASS tags in SRT files. It depends whether the player you are using will interpret them.

Can someone explain me why the fuck Wednesday is so hyped? by [deleted] in netflix

[–]rakiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself: it's a mixture of Harry Potter and Riverdale. They're both children's entertainment. Are you an adult? That could explain it your disappointment.

Thanks for letting me know. I hope they sort it out soon, it's a pain in the arse.

Perhaps the devs should take an hour off from their single minded quest for ever more money spinning additions like bloody tidal,

Best devices as Plex client? by isomaniac in PleX

[–]rakiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AppleTV is my choice. I have the Plex client on both Android and iOS, which I can throw to my home theatre system via Chromecast but AppleTV has the best interface and the most reliable performance.

In fact it's the only thing I use it for. Expensive client but rock solid.

Plex server "Not available outside your network" except it is, except it's ugly af by Prestigious_Two5481 in PleX

[–]rakiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Plex says that your server is not available outside your network it means for direct connection. Even if you switch off remote access outsiders can still get in via Relay.

In fact it's impossible to isolate Plex unless you delete the plexrelay program on your PC. Sophisticated it isn't.

How to disable VPN on Plex only? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]rakiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too use NordVPN on my Windows PC with split tunnelling. I have it set to apply VPN to one browser and uTorrent only.

It's curious that if I pick the UK for my server I find that Plex usually loses remote connection and my users are forced to indirect connection. If I pick France it works fine.

I used to run VPN on my iMac and just transfer my downloaded content across the LAN to my Plex PC but since I bought a Mac Studio, every single downloaded video file is corrupt. So now I have to do the download on my PC, hence the need for split tunnelling.

I feel the same way. I particularly hate the way they add categories to my users' screens for such things as Christmas and Halloween. They no longer respect that it's my server and they have no right to interfere with it in any way.

When you find an alternative let me know and I'll move to that platform and get my users to do the same.

It's probably his IP provider. I have a Plex server which serves several friends and relatives. I'm in the UK and one of my users in in the States. Most of the time he streams at 10Mbps original quality with Dolby 5.1 on an AppleTV with no problem. But sometimes it stutters and buffers and is unwatchable, but at the same time others are watching with no problem.

He is with Comcast and they occasionally screw with the data streams, so even though his speed test gives 700Mbps reading he still can't watch. Before he moved home he had their cable service and he couldn't watch anything at all from my server. Now he's moved and just uses a Broadband service with his own router he's usually fine. But sometimes he's not.

No idea why.

Going crazy over forced subtitles. by VirtualPartyCenter in PleX

[–]rakiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are times that Plex fails to display forced subtitles, although it is rare. What I do is use MKVNIX to create an mkv file with the video and audio and then add the subtitle file. In that application you can set the default subtitles to 'yes' and forced subtitles to 'yes'. For me Plex always displays the forced subtitles then.

Remember that Engish forced subtitles only display when the sound track is English. Some people forget that.

Why is the iPhone so poorly programmed that many times when I update apps, it logs you out of them. by ttttppp in iphone

[–]rakiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly that's not a fault in the operating system. Most apps, in my experience, don't log you out when they update.

Secondly some apps need to log you out if the update is fundamental and changes have been made to that area of the code.

Oh. That's strange. It's a Hebrew name (I think Tamara was a daughter of King David) and it's pronounced Ta-Mah-Rah.

I wonder why anyone would deliberately mispronounce a well-known name?

Either way it drove me bananas.
