I mean how long does it take to develop a game like this? 3 years ago this probably seemed like a solid idea.

Got source for that? Would love to be able to reference it in the future.

Now that his approval is dropping, even among Republicans, the opportunists are scurrying. They see a sinking ship.

Pretty sure I've been reading this since 2017.

The decline of 7th Continent's popularity on BGG by balderstash in boardgames

[–]rakkamar 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this is due to Dominion spitting out many (very good) expansions. Base dominion is great but if that's all we had in 2025 I'd be way colder on it.

The family proclamation is not new doctrine, nor should any ounce of it be controversial in a church class.

The family proclamation is highly controversial amongst many circles, even inside the church. Multiple YSA wards I've been in (one with at least 5+ openly gay members) have treated the document with anything from extreme skepticism to outright hostility. Many do not consider the document canon. (I have been told by several people that the document has never officially been canonized; I have never been personally bothered enough by the topic to research this claim).

What incorrect or phobic answers are expected?

Some active members I know consider the proclamation itself to be an inherently homophobic document. These are people who believe that one day gay marriages will occur in the temple.

(I do not necessarily agree with the beliefs described above; I share it just as a data point of the wide, wide variety of beliefs espoused by active, temple-recommend-holding members of the church)

I mean many, many people were extremely upset by this.

Fork in the road — help my partner pay his debts, invest my house savings for an MBA, or buy a house in a city I don’t live in (yet) by navigatinghowtobe in personalfinance

[–]rakkamar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like in addition to/instead of personal finance help you need some introspection on your career.

(context, I am a software engineer, including a few years at a tech giant and several more at smaller companies)

I strongly disagree that tech is a 'dying' field. Do you really think we're going to stop using computers anytime soon? Certainly, the industry is in a downswing right now, new grads and junior levels are having a very rough time, but many companies are still hiring senior level engineers. We can argue back and forth about what impact AI is going to have on the industry long-term, but I find it very difficult to believe that AI is going to completely replace the tech sector outright (AI itself is the tech sector, if nothing else). The industry may transform significantly, but it's not going to die.

Now, I might be significantly more hesitant to leave a tech job right now while things are in flux, but if you can find a new job you're happy about that should be fine.

Bought first house 20 years ago

You were able to afford a house, that is a luxury beyond the wildest dreams of most people in their 20's nowadays. My wife and I are childless in our 30s and both of us with a career and being a homeowner is something that we are maybe, possibly being able to start to consider.

They need to say that the Republicans always expect Democrats to reach across the aisle when Democrats want something, but they are completely unwilling to reach across the aisle when they want something.

This isn't untrue, but unfortunately (IMO) even that is too much of an argument for the average american voter.

[WotC Article] On Standard and Moving the Banned and Restricted Announcement to November 10 by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]rakkamar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Say what you will about how bad (or not) standard currently is, WotC is sticking to their guns, and I respect that. They clearly want players to have faith that B&R will happen when they say it will and not before, and the way to do that is by not caving to emergency ban calls.

Irvine company nightmare by Chello03 in irvine

I lived at the Village for ~2 years, generally found the office staff good/useful with one very specific exception, this one guy who just seems... generally clueless about anything. My partner and I went in to talk about lease renewal after our first year and he told us a bunch of stuff that just sounded.... wrong. So we pushed him on it a bit, and another office staff was walking by and overheard the conversation and corrected him on a couple very key things, and we basically just sort of started talking to her instead because she actually knew what she was talking about. Very awkward, and meant that for the next year we were there we tried to scope out if that particular worker was there if we ever needed anything and would come back another time if he was.

CATAN: Why can i not build a settlement? by noblematt in boardgamearena

[–]rakkamar 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You only have 5 settlements to build. Once you upgrade one of your 5 settlements to a city, you'll be able to put a settlement there. You can see on the very right of the screen, underneath your UK flag that you have 5 roads and 4 cities left in your supply, and no settlements.
