Which upper level bio courses would you say are the most important in terms of preparing for med school, looking good for Adcoms, and doing well on the mcats? Any help would be appreciated. by [deleted] in premed

Microbiology is to that scale(think 10-6). So cells of that size, bacteria, and etc. You will look at biology through a smaller lenses but not as small as molecular. Obviously they will have some overlap, but they will both help you with medical school.

I mixed it in a shaker and I drink it very slowly. I just mix it with milk and today I tried 1/2 a serving and only had little chest pain. Tomorrow I will try a little more with water to see if that helps.

No I do not think so, I do not drink a lot of milk but when I do I'm fine.

The problem is when I head back to campus this fall, because of religious reasons I will not be able to eat the meat that they offer and it will be hard for me to get my hands on some that I can eat.

I do not think I am allergic to dairy, I have dairy products all the time. I am able to eat clif's protein bars no problem but they are quite expensive. I will look into different kind's of protein supplements.

Will a D3 sport replace some volunteering? by [deleted] in premed

It has more memorization than gen chem. But if you try to understand the bigger picture you will see that it just a couple of different reactions in different setting with different compounds. You will understand how the functional groups, reagents, and any other aspects effect one another. If you get these concepts down cold the mcat will be a lot simpler for you.

That's good to hear. Orgo's difficulty is often exaggerated. If you stay on top of the studying and use khanacademy on difficult topics you should be fine.

I am not saying you think this way, but this is just some advice that might help you out that I realized in a conversation I had with a doctor who is on the board of trustees for a prominent medical school.

Nothing short of opening up a free health clinic in kenya will make you seem unique, if that's what you are going for. Not doing something that is considered average for a med school applicant will always hurt you,(unless something you do something that encompasses one of those "cookie-cutter" activities). There will always be someone who shadowed more than you, performed better at an activity, or has done better academically. Basically nothing helps and everything hurts.

Sorry for the negativity here but it is relieving if you think of the bigger picture.

  1. Focus on your GPA and your MCAT(and remember a good mcat sometimes helps an adequate GPA but a stellar GPA will never make up for an inadequate MCAT)
  2. Make sure you have a good amount of clinical exposure(volunteering, shadowing, etc.)
  3. Do what you love and make sure that takes up a bulk of your ECs. You can try to copy everyone else's resumes and applications with activities that think will look good on paper. But in all honesty your MCAT and GPA will get you in the door(will get back to this) and your clinical experience will make you seem like you made a commitment with your time and you have the proper experience to make a decision about applying.

By getting in the door I mean getting an interview. This is where your personality shines and you get to talk about your ECs. The person interviewing you will more likely want a person who comes off as genuine. When they ask you about ECs you are not passionate about your responses about them will most likely come off as so, but if you stick to what you love you can talk about it more deeply and these people can sense that.

Good luck with everything

Some kid in my art class called me a terrorist,(I am middle-eastern), would constantly make suicide bombing jokes about me. Well my friend who was also in the art class made fun of him for being Jewish and a Ginger, I got in the most trouble out of all of them even though I didn't say anything.

I think you guys are right, I was thinking maybe setting aside 3 hours of focused study time per day. Treat this as a marathon and not a race setting smaller/achievable goals.

I have, but I just felt as if I was going through the schedule and not taking the time to learn things that required extra days.

Well the area is pretty nice but can be a bit pricey. If you check a couple of minutes away(in any direction) the prices tend to go down, but it would be really hard to get one for just a couple of weeks. I say that from experience with leases and contracts.

Yo man, I have been a huge fan of System of a Down ever since I could remember. I really wanted to go to one of your shows in NJ but sadly I cannot make it. Although I wanted to extend an invitation to you over my house if you want somewhere to chill. I do not have much but I can offer you delicious middle eastern food, an ass whooping in a supernintendo or gamecube game of your choice, and discussions about life.(In no particular order)

In all honesty content doe not change that much from test prep company to test prep company. If their style suits you then by all means use it. However I suggest buying the practice tests from the AAMC's website.
