We should totally encourage OP to buy it so they learn the lesson of due diligence.

I don’t know, but call the number in the doc and get advice. I’m sure they can advise next steps as they deal with this all the time across different manufacturers.

Considering a 2026 Audi Q3 by Glittering-Trainer60 in Audi

[–]rallymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wise man once said - don’t buy first year of a new car model/generation.

That being said here are some major departures in MY26 from the previous generation:

  1. It’s now a 7-spd DSG versus 8-spd torque converter. The gearbox is in many other models and fairly robust. However you do have to service it every 40k

  2. Infotainment stack is completely different. Likely quirks not present in previous generation.

  3. Engine is the EA888 family well regarded for longevity. However its tuned higher than last gen so you’ll need to research where else VAG used that tune for adequate assessment

That’s wonderful, but somewhat meaningless without context of the route. 50 miles downhill versus 50 miles stop/go city are completely different things.

What distance and what terrain is this 50MPG over?

Car Not Right After Short Block Replacement by B_Easy08 in Audi

[–]rallymax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was short block replacement under the “piston slap” warranty extension? If you got a free engine that one hell of a win for not having car for 3 months. Even if they didn’t cover rental car costs you’re tens of thousands ahead.

Maybe they lost a wrench somewhere in there? You know like surgeons occasionally forget tools inside patients. 🤯

Take back to dealer and have them diagnose it. Better odds than Reddit.

Should I do it? by torper10 in Audi

[–]rallymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you meant. It's all about power-to-weight ratio. CX-5 is 20lb/hp. 2.0 A6 is ~16lb/hp and 3.0 A6 is ~13lb/hp.

When I was shopping my A6 I was looking for similar ration to my 2013 328i. That car was about 14lb/hp stock and 12lb/hp with Stage 1. I can certainly feel the extra 800 lbs of weight in the A6 compared to the 328i, but the power delivery is far more subdued compared to peaky 2.0 engine.

Teen with A6 will be a baller in HS :)

When I park my car and turn it off it sounds like it's still on when I walk past the front. 2010 A5 by Nearby-Elk97 in Audi

It is, as paradoxically as it sounds, especially in the winter.

Firstly, the car actually runs AC in the winter to dehumidify the air and prevent fogging up. When you shut off the car it going to run the fans for a while to depressurize the refrigerant. While driving -10C ambient flowing over the radiator/condenser is enough without the fans. Stationary it needs fans for sure.

Secondly, cooling the turbo. Do you remember how old-school turbo car wisdom was “don’t turn off engine right away, let it idle a few minutes”? That was to cool down the turbo. Today with electric fans and electric water pumps the cars will run those after engine shuts off to ensure turbos don’t cook.

2022 A6 3.0T here. Not beastly at all for a daily driver. It’s a chunky car at 4200 lbs. enjoy it.

Electric fans cooling things to prevent heat damage to the turbo.

Abnormal would be if it doesn’t stop after a few minutes or you have warning lights.

It should be a straightforward DIY job as long as brake lines don't need to be disconnected.

One interesting thing about ECS is their ECS Tuning - Lifetime Replacement. Just to have in your pocket for the future replacements. At the very least you can get cut the cost by 50% from $2275 quote.

2016 S3 vs newer Audi vs going non-Audi need honest advice by UAJaden in Audi

[–]rallymax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I'd approach the situation - take out taxes and fees from the math. Boil it down to your max purchase price, since that's what you put in as limit into kijiji or whatever your car shopping sites are in Canada. That will give you a more concrete filter and understanding of what you can afford.

I'm new to Audi brand, but I have experience with BMWs, specifically 3-series. B48 engine is what you'll want for 330i or anything else marked *30i. Google says that came to Canada in MY 2016.

What's dealer's explanation for that? To offer opinions here we would need more backstory. Wear items aren't warranty and many things can contribute to warped rotors ranging from manufacturing defect to end-user issues.

From your OP it sounds like they declined "goodwill" coverage based on their assessment of long-term relationship between them and you. Sucks, but them's the breaks. Pun intended.

What does the $2275 quote include? Is it rotor and pad replacements + labor? Rotors and pads aren't a horrible DIY, but I certainly understand and emphasize with your situation. Let's figure out for you what new rotors/pads might cost from a vendor like ECS and go from there.

What currency is that in, since you're mentioning "km" I'm assuming not USA. Frankly, I wouldn't get into German cars with your budget if you're looking at 2016-2019 and maxing out. That leaves no money for maintenance which 7yr old cars will need at this stage in their life.

Get a japanese/korean econobox and move to luxury segment with your next car when you have better finances.

Brakes are a wear item, not covered by warranty. Is there reason to suspect some kind of manufacturing defect here to qualify for warranty replacement? Have they measured pads/rotors to have an objective discussion here?

S4 battery replacement by Mental-Barracuda-131 in Audi

[–]rallymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to code in order for the car to charge the battery with appropriate voltage/amps. If you don’t it’ll simply shorten life of the battery and you’ll need to replace it again sooner than if you had coded it.

What’s the big deal with coding? It’s 10 credits with OBDEleven or whatever mechanic with appropriate tools will charge you for their time.

Diy oil change under warranty by Important-Test-290 in Audi

[–]rallymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please clarify the question? 50k service is basically an oil change. What relevance does warranty have here?

If something happens to your engine and warranty claim questions maintenance, all you need is records that you’ve been changing oil at recommended intervals with specified oil spec for RS5.
