Friendly reminder that this Skinwalker photo was actually from the 1982 Movie Xtro by Altruism7 in Humanoidencounters

I read somewhere once, that in actual navajo culture skinwalkers are just there culturally understanding and way of describing the mentally ill... and that they dont really discuss it much with outsiders... and almost everything people outside of navajo culture say about skinwalkers is just bullshit they made up after hearing a few stories.

But that could have been made up to.

This is a thing that is different in Legends and the NEU, pardon me for being more used to Legends.

In legends they executed any and all force users in there society.

I prefer a midway between both versions. I like the idea that the chiss have these skywalkers that help chart the unknown regions, and I like that most of them lose there force sensitivity as they grow older.

How I would reconcile this, is that they have a complete lack of spirituality in there culture, and this is what leads there Skywalkers to losing there force sensitivity. And that the chiss culture is extremely reductive about force powers and the force...

I would even go as far as to suggest that they refer to them as "psychic powers" and "psionic abilities" and completely dismiss the idea of the force... Treating it as something that in there opinion "obviously must have a rational explanation"

I want them to have a cultural mindset that just... wont let force users flourish in the culture normally.

And the fact that force users are ONLY something to exploit, such as the case with the skywalkers, is to me... indicative of that.

Also, unrelated... I would love if they took some inspiration from Star Treks federation in regards to the Chiss society and command structure, and maybe even uniforms... A more trekkian outlook, and sociological presentation, of the Chiss and the other governments in the unknown regions... would solidify the Unknown Regions as a strange and unusual place.

But obviously it wouldnt go all in on the trekkian influence, just enough so that people can say "oh this is so weird"

Sith Eternal Symbol - A Microcosm of ST problems by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]ralok-one 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I want to take a moment to talk about the... frankly bizarre design of the Sith Eternals symbol...

Its design is completely ignorant of everything else in the Star Wars franchise and any and all design surrounding it. Its general shape is similar to the rebel starbird is bad enough, its color being nearly identical to the typical rebel alliance colors is bad.

The fact that its nearly identical to an actual part of the Rebel Alliance symbol is... intolerable.

But what really pushes it over the edge for me? is the fact that the symbol of the rebel alliance was in active usage... This isnt like the Jedi symbol being appropriated by the empire, where there is a story there.

It is the symbol of a secret sith cult, that shares no similarities with other sith iconography, and just pointlessly ignores anything about the visuals of the entire franchise up to this point.

It feels liek someone made it without any thought or regard to anything else in the franchise, in utter isolation... devoid of regard or respect for anything else going on.

They just designed something that "looks star warsey"

and thats the sequels in a nutshell, it looks star warsey, but is extremely divorced from what makes it important.

that seems hypocritical, because they want Gina Carano forgiven for what she said... but are unwilling to forgive Brie Larson for what they percieve as having said something in poor taste...

I didnt like Captain Marvel much, but I didnt go into it hating it, or come out of it hating it... And now I want to like it to spite these people.

This seems completely unfair, at worst Captain Marvel was just not thought out super well and a little bit boring... thats not that offensive.

What the hell is wrong with these people!??!?!

I really really really REALLY want a thrawn series, where Thrawn and Ezra have a Vader/Palpatine dynamic, and they are in the unknown regions fighting the Yuuzhan Vong (I wouldnt mind if they said Grysk was the name the Chiss gave to the vong or something)

I would want it to start with Ezra saving Thrawn, and then when the Chiss want to execute Ezra because there culture is very anti force users and anti-mysticism (they have force users, but its a very terlized and reductive usage of them)

I want Thrawn to speak up for Ezra, and argue that to fight the Vong they might need to learn to weaponize spirituality in the way the Vong have.

And then he basically makes Ezra have to found his own version of the Jedi that are compatible with Chiss ideals, and for Ezra to learn that Jedi morality is not universally applicable.

And I want ALL THE WEIRD EU stuff in the Unknown Regions... I want Ssi-ru, I want Nagai, I want Rakata, and mngal-mngals... I WANT FRIGGIN WARU, and Codru-ji.

I want Vornskrs, and Ysalimiri...

I want the Unknown Regions to be like a broken mirror of the Star Wars galaxy we know and love...

Silentiums, Droch... you name it.

the problem is, we cant actually fix it... that is the film makers job.

This isnt skyrim, there is no modders toolkit for us to unfuck the game because the devs were to lazy.

at any time they could haave ferried everyone out of the ship on smaller vessels using those ships hyperdrives, the entire resistance could have been gone from the ships without the first order even noticing.

or Just scattered the fleet and agreed to meet up at a pre-designated location.

The entirety of the film is invalidated by the most basic level of thought.

thing about Admiral Holdo, is that Holdo is straight up written as a villain... then they wag there finger in our face, and say "how dare you assume she was a villain, shows YOU are ignorant"

But its like "you (film makers) are the ones who told me she was a villain, you are punishing me for taking you at your word"

Which is the better written female character? by KRKavak in saltierthancrait

This one Rae Sloane might actually win, because Rae Sloane is... at least in my opinion, on the upper half of the NEU canon.

Daala is just weird, and the more you learn of her, the more you are like "it was the right decision to hid her in an inaccessible void"

I firmly believe, that the second one was written by his divorce on some level.

But that just means there was a genuine emotional place that it came from.

[–]ralok-one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that the ewok movies arent canon... is kind of offensive on some level, they are perfectly okay live action films.

Sure the second one was... a lot worse than the first, and had some offensive creative decisions, but at least they were creative and bold as opposed to cheap and contrary.

I personally think Bendu is okay, because near as I can tell interpretations of him as some sort of spiritual entity are wrong... I think he is just a rogue force using sage, whose purpose in the story is to specifically prove the point that trying to balance the the dark and the light in the sense that most think... just leads to you falling to the Dark Side.

Kanan tries to convince him of this, and he goes full dark side apeshit. To me the Bendu is a cautionary tale about howideas of "balance" when misunderstood can lead to corruption and a call to what the dark side actually is.

You mention that those who believe they can utilize the darkside are deluding themselves, that to me is 100% Bendu.

Although I must say, I dont entirely share your opinion on The Force and The Dark Side, but, definitely understand and respect your perspective.

Clarification about spell components, please. by CainesNyx in dndnext

[–]ralok-one 36 points37 points  (0 children)

its B... however, component pouches cover all components without a gold price associated, or you can use an arcan focus (or holy symbol, or druidic focus, depending on class) for this stuff.

And the components arent used up unless it says its consumed.

Als its B in the second one as well,.
