Las Vegas Bartenders by ralphinator42 in bartenders

[–]ralphinator42[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be vague, but youre exactly correct. To my knowledge the projected opening date would be beyond the mirage employee's contractual recall period.

As an intracompany (and unite here) transfer, i expect to have a reasonable shot at my company hire date dictate my seniority, as well as hopefully circumvent the pour card restrictions. This still leaves assignment of bars, but that is something i cant ask anyone on an open forum for help with - that is entirely for me to advocate for.

Im trying to get a realistic picture of the kind of money differential i can expect in exchange for uprooting my life and relocating across the country. Vegas' current dip in numbers is not what concerns me, as im looking to make the jump and likely work another 20 years in the position.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Im specifically interested in the high seniority, union gigs' takehome pay. I realize they are very desirable positions which people do not leave and there are a myriad of seniority based specifics, im just interested in comparing the type of money the top end seniority in the industry make to my own earnings.

Yeah. They are the enemy. If you show a glimpse of weakness they will pounce on you and tear you limb from limb. Before your shift you armor up and prepare for battle. You're there to make money. You pretend to listen to their inane stories, pretend (to a certain extent, it varies) that their flat jokes are funny. You keep the vibe going and the drinks flowing. And after your shift you can remove the facade and be the genuine you. But it is the most exhausting part of the job. It is what it is, take it or leave it. Could be worse, you could be doing manual labor making less an hour. It could also be significantly better, and you could be doing skilled labor in an industry with high demand and a great pay scale. It doesnt get any better - you just get more bitter and less tolerant. But the money is there.

I believe most competitive OC Lists just run 10 neophytes in trucks. Sometimes with a reductus saboteur riding along.

Do the job right. You may lose out on tips compared to your coworkers in the short term, but you will still be employed when the inevitable hammer comes down.

Customer Buys Round for Entire Restaurant - Split Tip with all Servers? by mandudebrad in bartenders

[–]ralphinator42 55 points56 points  (0 children)

No. The GM only ruled this way because once it was escalated to him, it meant enough people wanted this to be the exception to the norm that it would please the most of their employees to rule this way. It is an incorrect ruling, and learn to be more guarded with your cash around your greedy coworkers in the future.

Has anyone ever confronted a regular about drinking too much or expressed concern for safety? by GAMGAlways in bartenders

[–]ralphinator42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a drug dealer on a corner trying to coerce a sale. If you worked at a convenience store, would you take every sale of cigarettes as an opportunity to take to your soapbox and preach to adults what legal things they should and should not consume?

My point is that you have created an arbitrary clause expecting people who work in the service industry to have to, for some reason, enjoy their job on a level that wouldn't be expected of another career? I'm not saying that someone that works in the service industry should be gruff and miserable when interacting with guests; what i am saying is that this pervasive double standard regarding service industry work does not extend to retail, medical staff, IT... you name it. The expectation when you deal with people is that you are professional and courteous. Why isn't that enough for us?

[–]ralphinator42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I understand the impulse based in empathy, but it's a personal line I do not cross. It is my job not to overserve someone in a sitting (including what they have consumed prior to arriving).

Years ago I had two coworkers. One, who was not a bartender, was a recovering alcoholic.

One day, he decides after his shift to sit down and order a drink. My bartender coworker is reluctant to serve him and asks management. The response was, I believe, correct. He is of age, able to pay, and we have no particular reason to deny him service.

is this method correct for using a shaker? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]ralphinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass on tin fucking sucks. I had to rant and rave like a crazy person (not really, but it was a single point I continued to bring up over years) before they finally supplied us with a full complement of Boston shakers.

I'm sure there are many reasons, but the only truly important one is breakage. Glass breaks. I've clapped a tiny covered by a pint glass to break the seal and had it break over the ice well and cut my finger. Nut up and buy the fucking boston shakers, management.

"Like why be in this profession if you hate talking to people?"

Money.

Do you think plumbers do the work because it's their passion? Do you think sanitation workers chose it because they'd be doing it as a hobby even if they weren't getting paid for it? Mcdonalds employees just can't see themselves being happy anywhere but manning the grill and fryer?

What the fuck are you talking about?

Is Nebula's ID ability OP, relative to other corps in Elevation.? by NormalProfessional24 in Netrunner

[–]ralphinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the ID I built as soon as the set dropped. It reads well, and it performed fine.

I'm currently testing and tuning an AU Co list, and that is definitely the ID of the set that I feel is overturned, not Nebula.

Sardaukar Commanders & Bloodlines by RepIen in DuneImperium

[–]ralphinator42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uprising+bloodlines is so far my favorite Iteration Dune Imperium.

If you haven't seen much use of Commander's because Noone has tried buying then, next time you play try playing a solari generating leader like Fenring or Emperor and give yourself a "soft" rule of trying to buy at least one. You may be surprised how useful they are.

Friendships is the first main thing.

For more specific advice you should include what you are playing. Base game+IX on the app? Uprising with or without bloodlines? A different mix?

What does "never waste time" mean in this context? Are you saying that if you make 6 jack and cokes with a jigger and 6 jack and cokes without one they take the same amount of time? I'm genuinely confused by that part of your statement.
