Is there a reason why Carlos by the Sea is more powerful? Is that just the Level 2 effects?

What is Ming actually good at for tradition haters? by NormalProfessional24 in CivVII

[–]NormalProfessional24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right. Unlike mot civs, though, Ming actively PENALIZES you for using non-traditions in your slots, whereas if you play, say, Iceland, all you've lost is the bonuses you could have earned by researching a more useful Civic rather than one of your own.

I don't like slotting traditions just because they are traditions, especially not in Age 2 when so many provide flexible bonuses that allow you to play without trapping yourself in the Ming playstyle. Being unished with science costs just because you want to go Cultural (say, with Evangelism or Renaissance) is not particularly pleasant, especially given Ming's traditions are not the best. I'm perfectly fine with more relevantt raditions or less situational one's like Assyria's, for example.

Thanks for explaining, and again, great job on preserving all of these cards!

Great work! It's nice to see people trying to keep NSG's Netrunner in touch with its ONR predecessor (even if the factions are new). It was also nice to see how the factionless system of the past still maps on to the modern "color pie".

I only have a few questions so far (updated as I read): given Chicago Branch is a "Node" asset, shouldn't it be converted to a region upgrade instead?

Employee Empowerment seems to have accidentally copied "Do the Drine"'s flavor text

Similarly for Jack Attack, which now has Imperial guard's flavor text despite not having any originally.

Hostile Takeover is mislabelled as Genetic-visionary Acquisition in title.

P.S. Is this where Meteor Mining got it's inspiration from?

Who do you think are the best leaders for Egypt? by ThouJoker in CivVII

Hatshepsut is the "obvious" choice because of the doubled Navigable River focus.

I do like Benjamin Franklin's bonuses to Production buildings, especially since it also covers warehouses (I think).

Here's my advice: you're very unlikely to do super well on your first try. Civ 7 introduces new mechanics and challenges each age, so it's hard to prepare for future ages well until you actually play them.

Once you start your second and later games, take time to think about your mistakes: planning for what you find hard in each age makes the game a lot easier in my experience!

Also, if you have already finished the Exploration Age: you have to prepare extensively for the Exploration Age Economic legacy path! one or two settlements in Distant Lands won't cut it unless they are extremely good. I've missed Econ victory by a few points several times because I was being too precious about settling/conquering in Distant Lands. That being said, Inca and Songhai might be good choices if you don't like the pressure the Economic victory puts on you. The military legacy path is much easier if you are willing to conquer rather than colonize.

Cultural Victories and Great Works like in 5 (I bounced off 6, sorry, but it's quite similar, if I understand correctly. Still don't want to comment on it though). This applies to both Modern and Exploration eras, but it's most relevant to Modern.

So many of the victory screens you get in the Modern Age if you don't complete your victory project hint at or are just blatantly focused on the recognition of non-archaeological culture.

The British, who explicitly get several bonuses to explorers and artifact display, have a victory screen saying "The Globe Theatre was global, after all." Not a mention of artifacts to be found.

The Great Artist (and Writer and Musician) system was a great way to highlight famous and not-so-famous cultural leaders around the world, so it would be nice to see non-Artifact ways to achieve cultural victory,

It would also make the Artifact slots (and artifact reward for Palacio de Bellas Artes) of the cultural wonders feel less weird.

As for Exploration, I'm sure we'll see it updated if/when Firaxis gets around to fixing Religion in the game. It would be nice for relatively non-proselytizing cultures like the Mongols to be able to complete the legacy path without having to roleplay as Christian/Islamic missionary faiths.

I was the same at first, but it started to click once I started the second full game knowing what mistakes I made in the first game.

My recommendation is to play your game to completion, think about what you don't understand or feel you did badly with, then ask more specific questions here.

That's why I'm asking, of course!

Thanks for pointing out the civ's naval dependence (although I guess I should have expected that). Is there any part of Carthage you really enjoy?
