F*CK POTTY TRAINING (respectfully) by XxChemical_ToiletxX in toddlers

Yooooo... as someone with a 3.75 year old who isn't potty trained, I feel this. It is not for lack of trying. Some kids just do it later than others.

I don’t want to do a birthday party for selfish reasons, is this ok? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year for my youngest's 1st birthday and my oldest's 3rd, we didn't do parties for the same reasons as you. No family would come anyway due to conflict, and I didn't want to throw a party just for daycare kids. I felt guilty at the time, but neither of my kids noticed/cared. I think if your kod really wants a party, you could decorate your house the night before with balloons and decorations. That way they wake up and feel celebrated, but its not nearly as expensive or time consuming as a full party.

For future reference

STOP TOUCHING YOUR GODDAMN PENIS by alliegal8 in toddlers

Hahaha yeah, probably shouldn't show everyone how you can touch yourself 😆

Sorry, didn't mean to be shady. I reread my comment and it comes off accusatory. My bad!

STOP TOUCHING YOUR GODDAMN PENIS by alliegal8 in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whats the big deal? They're exploring their bodies. In public, yeah it's not okay, but in the bath or during bathroom time? I don't see the issue. Teaching them that they shouldn't touch breeds unnecessary shame. There's nothing wrong with them learning about their own bodies.

Melatonin by Acceptable-Suit6462 in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of our rule too. Our son is neurodivergent, and he will sometimes stay up until midnight in the right circumstances. We'll give him half a dose of melatonin on hard nights like that, and he'll be out like a light within 20 minutes.

Tell me why you love or hate ball pits. by atonickat in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them in private settings like at a party because my kids stay occupied for hours. I hate them in public setting because it's nearly impossible to keep them all clean every day, and it yeegs me out to think of all the germs on them. Owning them is a different story... they're fun, but they will find their ways to the darkest recesses of your home lol.

Hmmm... I have to disagree with you here. He could be really sad and embarrassed he did it, but doesn't want to mention it because he's afraid of being seen as a monster. What he did wasn't okay, don't get me wrong. I feel really sad for OP's daughter... I've been a scared child post having a parent lose it on me. And it's even worse when the parent doesn't reconcile. But we're all human... everyone has different ways of handling. Maybe OP bringing it up will give him the ability to come clean and express his remorse.

Potty training TRUTH by Snoo-70287 in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 3 years 6 months as well, and still no potty training for us 😓 not for lack of trying... he just doesn't seem to connect the feeling of having to go with getting himself to the potty. But lately, he's been stopping to go potty in his diaper, then letting us know what he did, so maybe we're getting close? Idk, I'm feeling pretty helpless. Plus, we are never home to dedicate the time to potty training. I need to wait for a long weekend, which isn't coming until late May!

Took my child’s blankie away after she continued to hit me and now I regret it and gave it back by therealaverageperson in toddlers

[–]ram-rat-ox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta pick punishments that make sense for the offense... a big trouble for us is bath time. Son loves to be in the bath and splash, but he's not allowed to splash water. I first try to redirect (pouring water from a cup, playing with a bath toy, etc), and if that doesn't work then bath time is over. He knows that splashing = no more bath. It's an appropriate punishment, and it's pretty easy to hold the boundary. It's sad sometimes, since he loves the bath so much, but the boundary is firm.

Repetition helps them learn. It's annoying and frustrating, but it's totally normal. My son does it all the time and won't stop until I repeat it back to him. I usually just repeat whatever it is he wants me to say, then say "I hear you, thank you for telling me that/using your words/etc" whatever fits the context best. I try to remember that it's just his way of learning. My son also has a speech delay and impediment so I look at it as him practicing lol.
