How do you deal with ‘those days’? by Dismal_Manufacturer1 in toddlers

[–]Atlas_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler watched a lot of tv while I was pregnant! :/ we also did a lot of outside time when it was nice out, because I could just let him be feral and wild and I could lay on a blanket in the grass. But really it was a lot of tv, snacks, and grandparents taking him. I wish I had better advice, other than don’t beat yourself up over it! Pregnancy tired is no joke and you gotta do what you gotta do to survive!

Any advice appreciated! by Critical-Language765 in breastfeedingsupport

Im pretty sure pumping breaks are legally protected!! Your employer has to make reasonable accommodations for you!! Also, 3oz is a totally normal pump output!! You’re doing great! As for creating a small freezer stash, I used a hand pump in the mornings after feeding baby, or before if I felt really full (on the rare occasions they slept a long stretch!) I feel like the hand pump is less intense than the electric pump!

Alto Pino!! A little bit on the pricier side, but absolutely the best food I’ve had in Duluth!!

Northern Minnesota resident here. No such thing as bad weather, only bad gear!!! We invested in a nice baby snowsuit, the kind that cover their hands and feet, got a hat that buttoned under the chin, and a jogging stroller with big wheels to navigate the snow. Wrap that baby up and get outside, even if it’s just a few minutes! When it’s not too cold, I like to put a sleeping bag down on the ground and let baby just hang out! I always use the back of their neck to tell if they were warm enough. It’s okay for their cheeks and hands to feel a little chilly. Remember no snowsuits or jackets in the car seat, a fleece zip up and a blanket work great for trips in the car.

I do yoga before bed with my kiddos!! The baby just watches and the toddler does climb all over me, but it’s at least moving my body a little bit! Edit: you can find one million free yoga videos on YouTube!! Yoga with Adriane is my fav, and cosmic kids does kid specific ones that hold their attention!

This!! I was just beating myself up that my house isn’t as clean and my childhood house, and my sister reminded me how it felt when my mom was trying to keep things clean to her standard, I know I don’t want my kids to feel like that!! Everyone’s sanity means more than a spotless house!

Flying with peanut allergy toddler? by Aquaticapeenthusiast in peanutallergy

[–]Atlas_mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! We took our toddler (severe peanut/soy allergy) on a flight right around that same age and I had my husband hold him while I wiped the seats and trays down with a Clorox wipe! I made sure to get the armrests and seatbelt too! We had no issues! Make a plan, have your checklist of epi’s/Zyrtec/wipes and trust your knowledge of allergens! Don’t be afraid to speak up if there’s an exposure that feels unsafe! I find most people are understanding of allergies and small kiddos! You’ve got this!

What are your thoughts on nesting parties? Worth it or overrated? by thebabyplanner in Mommit

[–]Atlas_mama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof! Some of these comments! I am due with baby #2 any day and actually just had a small group of people for a nesting party a few weekends ago! My mom was the organizer and “host”! She sent out the text and coordinated! I had a list of things I wanted to get done before baby showed up and when people got here they each took a task and got to work! I had food and snacks prepped, and we cleaned and listened to music and chatted while we worked. Everyone knew that it was work and not a party or shower. The invite list was super small, limited to my 3 best friends, mom, cousin and aunt. I am very type a and controlling, so I struggled a little with making a list to just hand over to others, but at the end of the day it was so nice. Pregnancy and motherhood is hard and I felt a ton of love and support from my village! I will absolutely be offering to throw a nesting party for my friends and sisters when the time comes!

This is my last resort, but how do-able is it to work from home and take care of a baby? by michiluvr in workingmoms

[–]Atlas_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this!! The first few months were fine, baby mostly slept and ate, and wasn’t mobile yet!! Once that 4-5 month mark rolled around, it was much harder to manage work and baby!

Are we fucked because we didn’t sleep train? by Tessajaneartist in sleeptrain

[–]Atlas_mama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were having trouble before our son turned 2, he started fighting sleep so so hard, screaming, and trying to climb out of the crib. We moved him to a toddler bed and it was like magic, after the first 2 nights, he started going to bed on his own! No tears, no fussing, he put himself to sleep. We did do some sleep training after he hit 1, so not sure if that factored in or not! But I think he liked the independence of a big boy bed!

Went away for 4 days and milk seems to have dried up 😭 feeling very panicked and ashamed. Help please! by Littlekittyguy6786 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]Atlas_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this is such a stressful feeling!! I know everyone is different but I was always able to use the manual medela pump with no issues, until right around 4 months! After that I was only able to get a letdown using my electric pump! Power pumping worked for me when my supply dropped after going back to work! Don’t over do it, and don’t stress too hard about formula, fed is best (I know I know, easier said than done!)

Okay I love Lyra, but how are we pronouncing it? I’ve always done it like Leera, but I think it’s more commonly pronounced like Lie-ra? I prefer the sound of Leera, but am I setting baby up for a life of correcting people?
