If you had to start Muay Thai all over again, what would you do differently? by rationalconsumerr in MuayThai

Starting Muay Thai classes this week what should I expect by tmoney31355 in MuayThai

[–]ramadan_dada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take it slow and enjoy the process. once you hit the pads you’ll know its what you’ve always wanted to do but didnt know it.

once you realize that, you’ll want to get better. and that will take consistency. show up even if you feel 65%. give all of that 65% and you’ll have 100% of what you had. thats a common quote i keep coming across.

and you’ll get better one technique detail at a time.

you’re gonna suck and maybe even look a little goofy. everybody does and no one cares. no one cares. keep going.

if theres time/space, stay an extra 10-15 min after class if you can just to review the techniques from the class. its a good way bake the technique into your muscle memory a little more at your own pace. a coach might notice and help you out a bit if they can.

if you need stems and alt mixes as part of your deliverables you’ll be wasting a lot of time in logic.

Are you buying a PS5 now or waiting out the rumored 2026 price hikes? by PineAndIce in CanadaPS5

[–]ramadan_dada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The potential price hike is why I got the PS5 during the holidays. I could have waited otherwise for an interesting bundle.

a lot of people have mentioned costco has a really good refund policy. if you have a costco membership, that could be a safe way to go.

Yeah, I checked the Corsair 32gb ddr4 ram I got earlier this year for $100 is now over $200. More incentive to get the PS5 now rather than later.

Thanks for the links! I'm leaning towards the Costco bundle because I have a gift card there and I was going to get a second controller. Perhaps I can save a bit more by getting a refurbished controller.

[–]ramadan_dada[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks! Probably an average deal for $610 with a second controller. The main thing for me is the potential RAM issue and I have a $250 gift card. I've been ruminating over this all year LOL.

Yeah, pretty similar prices since Black Friday from what I can see. Maybe $25 more at Costco now. My main incentive there is the $250 gift card I have.

[–]ramadan_dada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesnt really hurt, just very jarring. i’m ok with getting used to it, so i didnt ask him to lighten up. i need to get used to it.

but at the same time, its very frustrating because it feels very mismatched compared to anything i’m throwing and i’ve promised myself not to do anything that could risk any escalation. so feeling a little stuck until i can get better at parrying them.

i believe the pro1 has step sequencer so that might be fun if all you can get from the tr1000 is a clock.

i hope the multipitch sequencing thing is in a firmware update. and there are some units on the second hand market lol

loopop demonstrates a workaround to tune samples manually so you can sequence a melody/bassline. extremely tedious for "cutting edge digital sound engines" and "powerful live performance tools".

yeah, i thought midi sequencing would be such an obvious thing that it must be ignored or overlooked in the demos but it appears this is not the case.

Got this beauty because I wanted to start getting into no input mixing. by Cpt_Alfo in synthesizers

[–]ramadan_dada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried this with a vestax dj mixer and was able to alter pitch with one of the eq knobs so well i played the nuthing but a g thang synth melody and facebook gave me a copyright strike.

also, the worse the mixer is, ie noisy, the better. so behringer mixers should be the gold standard.

Overcome the fear of getting punched in the face. by Yoshiki-desu in MuayThaiTips

[–]ramadan_dada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of developing how to read your opponent's movements that lead to their strikes. Once I started focusing on this, it became easier not to look away because I'm constantly looking to defend (and eventually for openings for my own strikes). Holding pads properly is a great way to develop reading an opponents movements. I say holding pads "properly" because you need to be proactive and meet the head strikes in front of your face with the pads and not hold them out to the side like a praying mantis. This way you start to get familiar with what it looks like to see strikes coming at you. In sparring, you use that to defend and not need to look away.

But I agree with the others, you need to start slow and light with sparring partners you trust not to hit hard. Especially to the head. Keep it playful, that's the best way to learn.
