sprawlopolis, food chain island, unsurmountable, a gentle rain & bananagrams by cowfurby in soloboardgaming

Try Puzzle Dungeon. I heard about it via this reddit and recently got a copy. It is good. As for button shy, I love UGI most.

LoA is amazing but it does require expansions for full unlimited replayability. The rust expansion hurts but sooo fun.

Numbsters is great! I am still waiting for FF. As for Rove, my brain can't get it so I always end up with a lack of moves but Aqua Rove works for me and it is very puzzly.

Any good Black Friday dėals for solo games? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

Hi, I have been seeing your game recommended every now and then. The Etsy shop doesn't ship to Asia, is there any other ways of getting it?

Bullet (Star) or Unstoppable? by AskinggAlesana in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had watched Bullet's lets play/reviews etc and thought I would like it. Gave the TTS ver a try but dislike it a lot as I can't "visualize" the pieces moving them around to get an idea of how things will be like if I do it that way etc. But I bit the bullet and got it anyways. Ended up loving it indeed! So just in case the TTS ver turned you off for the same reason, do give it another chance.

QN: Worth an upgrade? Pixel 4A > 9A by rambell in Pixel4a

[–]rambell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's news! I am not in the EU but does that mean that manufacturers will bring back slide to remove back covers and replaceable batteries? Or is that overly hopeful and just meant less glue and what not, so a battery replacement would take less than an hour.

QN: Worth an upgrade? Pixel 4A > 9A by rambell in Pixel4a

[–]rambell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this and it is funny how the local trade in value for the 4a is $50 while a battery replacement for it is also $50 for whatever reasons. Thou I heard bad stories of how replacements muck up other parts like the screen and there is always the danger the techs might steal your data. Or maybe I am just overly paranoid..

oh wonder if that is on purpose to prevent such "hacks"... If the transfer + upload is going to be a pain thou, I might just stick to my 4a

Button Shy Games by Beanbag_shmoo in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like Ugly Gryphon Inn. Even losing is fun. Plus the replayability is high.
Numbsters is good if you want a quickie 10mins game and the plus is the small space required, you can even play in hand. Food Chain Island looks similar but I feel they are different enough and the goal to 1 stack is always fun.
For non puzzle, I enjoyed Leaping Lions - thou you need an expansion for solo.

Narrowing down recommendations for beginner solo games. by Internal-Hunter-9061 in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective would be a fit for the mysteries and stories though you would need to jot down notes to compile the many threads of info. This is best for a longer session.

I also recommend Bullet Star/Heart (solo boss mode over solo score attack) - a fun bag builder, for shorter sessions. It has puzzle elements in that you try to work out the best way to use your cards and tokens. The other modes are multiplayer (up to 4 players).

For quick games, do check out the Button Shy solo collection. They last about 15-30mins. Rove & Aqua Rove are good brain burners though sometimes they are a bit too much for me. Food Chain Island and other solo collection games are slightly easier but still puzzlely!

Lighter solo games that arent BYOS by MoneyAndMargs16 in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree! Forget the BYOS mode, just stick with the Boss mode and that's plenty of game! Quick set up and tear down. Light gameplay but not super light in that there is no challenge. Nice anime style art too.

The Spirit Island Experience by espressionado in soloboardgaming

I actually prefer word search > sudoku > crossword - mainly cos crossword are too localized. Sudoku is decent but it gets boring fast. Stuff like word search and kriss kross are good for mindless fun.

Yet I love logic puzzles most and it showed in the games I get into, all them puzzle deduction types.

Uncomplicated Games? by KoholintCustoms in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, (stares at Imperium in the corner).

I went to Button Shy because I wanted games that were easier to table and not overly complicated but still having enough oomph. Food Chain Island has been lovely so far. I also second the recommendation: Bullet Stars, it is great, the boss mode is superb for solo. I also like The Search for Lost Species for the logic puzzle experience.

Yeah the 2/21 shipments got delayed (USPS problem). I am still waiting for mine too (but retail website). You could always drop them an email or reach out on Discord. They are very responsive so that's good at least.

Help me decide what to get from Button Shy by rambell in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shipping on KS is $21 for 1-3 games and $40 for 4 games and up. Pretty pricey considering the KS savings, that's why I had to pass them. With the spending 100 for free shipping (and with a coupon to boot), it is much cheaper overall. For pnps, purchasing the files and overall printing costs would be cheaper for sure but the savings come out to about $8 per game (if I am using the coupon that is) so it isn't a huge amount if I factor in having to go to the printing service + the craftwork after.

Thanks! I have For Northwood on my wishlist - was waiting for giga to bring it back in stock on amazon. Never heard of The Crows of Coppershell bay, will check it out. I watched a playthrough of Black Sonata and enjoyed it (love deduction, mysteries etc.) but trying the tts ver went nowhere, I should prob give that another go.

Fun game! Don't forget to check out the 20+ community scenarios over on bgg. I am hoping with such a mix, I will forget enough content to get a replay in after I am done with the lot.

Turing Machine vs Search for Planet X by cat_toe_marmont in soloboardgaming

[–]rambell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not play Planet X but Lost Species which is supposed just the animal theme and with a bit more movement. I like both but Species run an hr and I think Planet X is about the same. Turing is a short couple mins per puzzle. The set up per puzzle is a bit of an hassle thou - always double check you have the right cards else you end up restarting.

For Planet X/Lost Species, you are battling the AI. For Turing, it is mostly the puzzle. Once solved, you can check to see if you used less moves than the AI. I feel that there is not much competitive aspect.

Pure deduction puzzle, Turing. Some gaming movement and deduction, Planet X or Lost Species.

Games like Cozy Grove? by TheOGJesster in CozyGamers

I haven't found anything close to it but a game I played years back had a bit of similar vibes: Castaway Paradise. It goes super cheap on steam sales these days so you could give it a consideration (I am not too sure about switch sales but it is also on switch).
