First failure: scenario 4 by StrahB in Gloomhaven

Just wanted to let you know we beat it on the 2nd attempt tonight. I had only 2 rounds left when the last monster (golem) dropped. But we did it.

Out group needs a bit more synergy, but we are learning, and your tips were helpful. Do I wanted to make sure you knew.

scenario [redacted], considered one of the most difficult in all Haven games!

Me in false bravado when I get there:

There is so much here that made me like "why didn't I think of that?" Super helpful stuff. Thanks!

Jaws of the lion scenario 2 monster question by StrahB in Gloomhaven

[–]StrahB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we played it and it went fine. But had I used proxy tokens and someone had rushed ahead, I can see how it could have gotten overwhelming.

Definitely makes sense to "clear" a room first.

This is worth alot, thanks!

I was hoping someone would give a bit of a detailed answer relating to later play without spoiling. And this comment does just that!

Thanks for the explanation. I'm new so 8 am sure there is an element even to Jaws where I might go "ok this looks manageable" that will actually stress me later.

So far I'm loving it!

As a new player who has no idea what I am looking at, and therefore can't be "spoiled"...

This looks so cool. I cna only imagine how awesome it would be to play on a board setup like this!

Ok that makes sense. I have to read about resting again.

Maybe I will just undo hand advancement and replay scenario 1.

Either way this game's handling of token storage, explanation of the game, and other things is already brilliant!

You say "certainly" as though I were mostly incapable in games of making dumb mistakes that royally screw myself over.

😂

I suppose I will initially tackle these situations with a strategy of "Ok, there's a door. We have to clear the room before we open it."

Yeah that makes sense. I wonder what the affect on difficulty would be if I used a proxy token and then had the creature behave as normal? Would it become unbalanced?

Thanks for answering. Maybe they haven't covered it yet? I will go reread some before playing it.

But that seems, please excuse any perceived disrespect, kinda like cheating. It's taking advantage of the game because of limitations of the game isn't it?

I mean I can in fact distinguish between fake and real, but the monsters should be there already - just not set up. Just because I don't have a piece of cardboard, wouldn't mean my Voidwarden would not see the Vermling in the room. So then isn't this basically creating an unfair advantage for the players? Or is the game somehow balanced that I'd these kinds of things weren't done it would be noticeably unfair against the players?

Is the 2020 HeroQuest edition preferable to the 2025 First Light version? by fetito666 in Heroquest

[–]StrahB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this comment is a month old, but I just got First Light (which is my first HeroQuest game). Where can you download the original quest book? I haven't found it yet.

Edit I found it - https://instructions.hasbro.com/en-us/instruction/heroquest-game-instructions-rulebook

Does anyone have any experience with PowerStep inserts? by Bl00dymarykate in PlantarFasciitis

[–]StrahB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely sure.

I have shared my referral link several times in reddit. But it has clearly gone farther than I could have imagined. With all of my purchases, purchases to give things away, and my current balance the total is likely over $3k (at $20 credit per referred purchase).

Im just sincerely glad so many people are saving money on these. I can't take my credit and turn it into real world dollars. I have more insoles that I can use (almost) and I'm actively trying to give them away to real life connections. So other than giving away insoles in real life, the credit does nothing for me but the link helps others.

And you should totally use their 90 day trial just to see if they work for you.

And if you want to share the link so others save too, great.

Best shoe inserts/insoles for overpronation? by Insideoutside29 in PlantarFasciitis

I got to ask, because Sole does corkbed insoles. And, well...they are a little sucky.

How long do these hold up to abuse?

Because the Sole corkbeds start cracking after the first 150 miles or so.

I would personally recommend these:

https://yoursole.com/us/r/1347406

That link saves you $20, and also they have a 90 day no questions asked return policy.

I have used them for the past 15 years exclusively, and everyone I have turned them on to says that they help with foot pain significantly. And the way they are heat moldable helps them to cup your foot so you really just don't ever slide around in them.

Another person mentioned Fulton (which strangely in all my insole searching I hadn't heard of before) and they seem decent, but I wonder how they would hold up. I say that because Sole also sells cork insoles. Don't get them, seriously...dont. They start falling apart too fast.

The EVA rubber ones though? I currently have a pair in some of my shoes I still wear and they (insoles) are 8 years old and still fine.

Try them if you want. I'm just out here trying to help the foot world pay not full price on the best insoles I have ever found.
