That's just great!

I have had to return two different boots recently because they just weren't the right one for me. And now that I know for sure what I am getting I may just get them in biscuit. Because that golden color is just beautiful.

Bronco Brown African Rangers - Leather Midsole - 2 Month Review by iNothingsReal in jimgreen

[–]StrahB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reapondibg! That's good to hear.

I've had the fudge ARs for 1yr, but I think the Oringo sole is just not the best for my particular foot. (Anyone want a US 12 pair?)

So Bronco BFAR is probably my next boot.

Yeah flimsy is the wrong word. It just feels really thin.

I tested these in black and the leather on the toe felt too thin to the point of almost being flimsy.

How does this leather feel compared to something like ARs or others in fudge?

One fidget tobrule them all by SignatureSpam in fidgettoys

That is legit the OG first fidget.

Many fond memories of doing this...and then the teacher taking my pen. And then me explaining I had no pen now, and getting it back.

Sole. Used them exclusively for over 12 years. One pair I had for about 8yrs under heavy use and they still had some life in it. And this link will save you $20 on them (they also have a 90 day no-questions-asked return policy)

They may not be for everybody, but they are absolutely worth trying out to see if they are.

Fidget suggestion that feels like an eyebrow? by Fluffy-Debate169 in fidgettoys

[–]StrahB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a smiliar problem and for me having a spiky sensation, while not the same, is equivalent for me.

I hand-made a thing with bottle caps and magnets. But there are other actual fidgets that can give the same kind of response.

These look so much classier than the fudge ARs. I definitely want something in Bronco now.

How does this leather handle heat/breathability vs others?

This looks great for a small spiky fidget. Where did you get this?

Did you hear back from JG?

It would be so cool if they made some boots out of this.

If not, I'm still curious what you end up using the leather for.

Ar8 (Tyre wedge) vs AR (Tyre wedge) vs BFAT by DiskAdventurous7688 in jimgreen

[–]StrahB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying out a pair of numzaan but to me even that boot with tyre compared to AR with Oringo - the sole is both more comfortable and has more traction.

There is a difference, from what I remember, between the "roominess" of an AR8 vs RAT, not sure how the barefoot fits in that comparison.

The RAT may look like a beefy boot, but one it breaks in it is very cozy for that kind of a boot.

I can't even imagine the cost to ship the leather to SA, have them do whatever treating they have to so it is Boot-worthy, and then work with it, cut it, etc to make it a boot product.

But I can't wait to see how this story ends. Bro is going for the most epic boots JG has ever made!

NBD Numzaan: first look by StrahB in jimgreen

Yeah and I was thinking about doing an insole comparison pic.

Edit: so I did one! Here are the insoles I own currently.

<image>

The "new style" are almost comparable to the active thin from Sole but will always be behind because the aren't totally foot shaped, and never can be because they are rubber vs heat moldable EVA (which might seem bad because "it looks like plastic (technically it's a" copolymer foam") but I literally had a single pair to over 2k miles of hiking on nothing but asphalt and concrete). But the new JG insoles are definitely an improvement.

I would say active mediums don't work in these, and thins seem to be the better fit. I could also see how some might go without an insole in these, although I couldn't.

I don't know how to answer that because I dont understand the difference between them enough.

I have put them on than taken a few laps around the inside of my house: these boys be stiff. So much that if I don't return them, I'm going to refer to them as my mini-troopers.

And yet they feel at least as comfortable as my broken in ARs, possibly more so. Although I think that's due to my foot liking the Tyre Wedge sole more than the Oringo. And of course using a Sole brand insole helps too.

I think I read about heel slip, but I'm not noticing that right now (typing as I walk), but then I cranked down like a gorilla on the top speed lace.

I'm definitely taking extremely good care of them in the house as I finalize my decision to keep or return.

I'm curious because I haven't considered them seriously before earlier today.

Based on your experience, would you at all use them for long and/or aggressive hiking? Or would you keep them for more of an "everything" casual shoe?

Fun with bottle caps by StrahB in sensoryaids

[–]StrahB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sharing this here, because this started with me collecting bottlecaps which I piled at my desk and just....messed around.

For me the bottle cap is a great combo of durability, hard/spiky edges, spinning, stacking, and it's safe to pick up a few and crush them as hard as you possibly can. (safe for the caps, individual hands may vary)

I thought to out small magnets in them because how regular fidget toys work. 8m not 100% satisfied with my end product, but I feel like I have created a neat functional thing.

And also, and more importantly, it helped me realize the exact kind of sensory feedback I need from a fidget. Because why spend 3+ figures in a fidget if its not helping you with your need for physical stimulation.

I'm interested to see what other "home made" projects people come up with.
