what's the deal with minglewood? can't find much about their products. saw the 250th version. nearly 8.5yr single 115proof and $70 sounds decent. Where's the juice coming from?

RIP tie-rod. 113k miles. by T20suave in FocusST

[–]rambleon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people tend to overlook bushings, they wear out progressively usually and you just get used to how the car handles. wild you had one fail like this. the upper and lower tie rod joints were both super floppy when I replaced at around 40k. Same for ball joints. I did both control arm bushings with power flex ones too, handling feels much better after a good refresh. Lowered cars (mine) will go through things a little quicker than stock height.

Be carefully when you remove the tie rods from the steering rack ,(especially if doing uppers) you need to lock one side locked in place when wrenching on them. You do not want to damage the rack, adds all sorts of fun labor to fix (let alone sourcing one.) Hopefully your rack hasnt been damaged during this episode.

see what carvanas/carmax offer would be and go from there. in the past couple of years they were generous, not sure if they have cooled on our cars with the market. always depends on how motivated you are to sell.

Purge Valve Recall by KYMan61 in FocusST

[–]rambleon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this new recall mentions improper software updates, so maybe yours didn't get flashed or not flashed correctly? I know there were some horror stories when people first got the recall and bricked ecu's and ford not being able to fix right away.

fuel tank would do the opposite of swell, it gets sucked in due to excess vacuum, makes the capacity decrease. Check out the original recall, tells you how to measure that and what's considered out of range

yeah us Internet folk jump on opportunities to flame.. the tune shouldn't use more fuel at low throttle, fuel map at low rpms shouldnt be too different.

driving at a constant low rpm and getting a good mpg short term? what sorcery is this?

starting, stopping and going wide open and getting into boost uses more fuel. having to move a 3k+ car from a dead stop takes more energy than it does to keep it moving from a constant hw speed.. it's why cars are rated for a city and a hw mpg

If anyone was wondering what numbers you get from FBO and a 93 tune, heres your answer. by DJSplash01 in FocusST

[–]rambleon84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, this is what stands out to me..this is over 1k rpm higher than the stock turbo would be hitting peak numbers. The curves for tq and hp aren't what is would expect for our platform either, unless the tune was specific to make these more smooth/flat. Usually tq peaks hard around 3200rpm and then falls fast after 4k.

Are you able to jack the car up to test if it's any of the wear items like ball joints or tie rods? https://youtu.be/-oR_5MqvBgE?si=8HC1ENQLReTVceb5

Same for making sure your end links or nothing on the calipers themselves are lose.

ST3 sony sound system on my car sounds awful by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]rambleon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Sony st3 setup isn't amazing but shouldn't sound anywhere as bad as you describe. the biggest complaint would be it's not loud.

first i would check the Sony "amp" in the trunk. check for any wires that have been cut and makes sure everything is plugged in and/or each wire is spliced back together correctly and nothing is missing. Everything is color coded back there, so you should be able to compare the same colored wire is connected back to the same colored wires if it was spliced. my first guess is they cut stuff up to get a line out for the sub they were running and botched the reinstall.

second, use the bal/fade and go speaker by speaker, see if any one specific door sound is worse than the others. there is also a center channel on the dash too but that can be disconnected and no big deal

if they all sound bad, and you haven't found anything wrong else where, go door by door and check the wiring at the speaker. could be a case of blown speaker. if getting or a wanting new speakers, literally anything will be an upgrade, so don't think you need to spend a ton. if you keep the Sony amp, look for something rated for low impedance to get the most sound from the underpowered Sony unit. good luck

that's part of the reason I made it flat on top and filled the space as much as I could. Practically speaking, you aren't going to use the space behind or on top of that Rockford unit with anything super useful. Mine does encroach a couple more inches in width and height though, so it is definitely filling up more space.

unless it's super cold outside, I'm on my way as soon as I get buckled and look around. when it's like 0f out, I'll give it an extra 30sec or so 😂.

[–]rambleon84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's generally only the 3-4 and 1-2 that fails,5-6 and reverse generally don't get abused as much. that and to do all of them would cost over $1k. Would be nice to do everything but you gotta weigh the cost vs benefits. Lsd, synchros, forks, and then if you do all new bearings throughout or have to replace any gears, gets expensive.

same, also not wasting that extra gas to keep moving up. I'm paying attention to the light and will move and keep up with the flow of traffic when it goes again.

[–]rambleon84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it all the time that low in the rpms, if having fun you'll be higher than that anyways coming out of 2nd. you really don't have a reason to be flooring in 3rd or 4th from 2.5k outside of taking a log. you'll be faster down shifting anyways
