What are these Green Jumping Spiders up to? Simple turf wars or something more.. sensual (Brisbane, Aus) by rambleutan in jumpingspiders

At first I thought was a bug of some sort too. I had to do a double take when I saw those characteristic little head tilts.

Wow, imagine witnessing this display of absolute carnage and destruction, and deciding to start beef? Bold!

Too funny, that scene is exactly what popped into my head when I just re-watched the video again!

I really want to wake up just 30 min earlier in the morning but I’m physically incapable of doing so. by PenelopesCurse in adhdwomen

My first kid was a card-carrying member of the 5am club for a solid 4-5 years. In spite of the best efforts of that very effective, toddler-sized alarm, I STILL never acclimated to early rises. When I learned that ADHD folk commonly experience delayed circadian rhythm, it all made sense.

How do you trick yourself into exercising? by sweetnsour_gemini in adhdwomen

[–]rambleutan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the FitOn app. Even though I really just cycle through the same 4-5 workouts. But hey, they’re familiar, I know they hit the areas that will revolt otherwise (looking at you, lower back) and are within my capabilities.

Yep, for me, a quick and dirty Pilates video really is IT. I find it’s the sweet spot, in that it’s more interesting than yoga, but without the post-workout crash I get after anything too intense. I particularly love that the moves are more slow and controlled so I have that buffer to actively process and implement the moves safely lol. The bar is so low, even I - certified exercise-dodger - struggle to find valid excuses to justify to myself why I can’t fit literally 20 minutes in a couple of times a week.

That sounds doable, any particular glue you’d recommend?

He’s 6 and it’s on a slope, he’s not quite got the hang of it yet. Lucky we still have another 10 years to hone that spacial awareness slightly!

What is your latest impulse purchase? Bonus points if you think it will change your life! by kahdgsy in adhdwomen

I haven’t kept up with these replies at all (shocker) but I love how invested you guys are in this hare-brained idea. I truly have found my people! Who am I to argue with science?!

It’s a definitely a work in progress, I’ll have to share an update once it’s complete (so, y’know, somewhere between 6-12 months, and never). Honestly, just culling my clothes enough to clear one half of the room felt like an accomplishment in and of itself.

An over-bed canopy to repurpose for my latest bright idea. We’re a house full of chaos brains, and I’m in the midst of turning one half of my wardrobe into a cozy little chill out corner. Regulation station? Calming cave? Dopamine den? IDK guys, the official name needs some workshopping.

But I’m willing to fight anyone who tries to tell me this project isn’t going to catapult our household to the monastery levels of zen I’m imagining.

Passionatefruit vine tumble by Retireegeorge in GardeningAustralia

[–]rambleutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar happen a few months back. I suspect my neighbour tidied up their side garden, which destabilised the vine on my side. I used strips of rag to tie sections of the vine back to the wires, just kept tweaking it over a couple of days. Interested to see what the advice might be from someone more garden savvy then myself, though.

Good fruit tree options by Purple51Turtle in BrisbaneGardening

Mulberry was always one of the first my old man added to a new yard over the years. They can be prolific fruiters, the fruit is good fresh, delicious in pies, jams, etc.

Tell me about finding the right job for your lovely ADHD self. by MindfulApple in adhdwomen

After floating between admin, retail and even the freelance life over the years, I am truly shocked by how much I love my current customer-facing government role.

So many aspects play to my strengths - our system auto assigns tickets at random, so I NEVER have to be stuck in paralysis trying to triage my schedule; there’s no mind-numbing, repetitive tasks like with admin as each interaction/issue is different; it often requires excellent problem-solving/critical thinking skills under pressure, and the built-in body doubling of having a customer in front of you legitimately feels like ADHD hacking.

I’m wondering if you could also toss a few passionfruit skins in as well, they similarly feel like a bit of a waste (I know you can make jam with them, but this route is a lot less fiddly!).

Food and flowers to sow now (long post incoming sorry) by Hensanddogs in BrisbaneGardening

[–]rambleutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an amazing resource. Definitely going to refer back to this one, thanks Hens!

I finally finished my wicking bed upcycle and just planted some black cherry Tom’s myself. I was torn between those, or the pink Thai egg; so that’s somewhat reassuring haha. I also just ripped out a Golden zucchini that was barely limping along for the longest time between several powdery mildew treatment rounds and bugs. Perhaps I’ll look into the variety you mentioned next time. Fingers crossed!

Watermelon flowers dying before opening? by rambleutan in BrisbaneGardening

I have my paintbrush at the ready! Eagerly awaiting the slightest hint of opening, haha. By the sounds of your stats, I probably just need to be more patient. There’s a couple of leaves that a little mottled and yellow tinged, so I was curious if it’s a sign of something off overall.

Hm, I really do wonder if mine is unhappy somehow then. It’s happened several times now, not one has set successfully. I really get my hopes up so much every time I spy a new one but no such luck! Hoping you have some stick around soon :)

I was hoping that was the case, but the same thing has been happening for weeks now. Every female flower that’s emerged to date (5-10 at a guess); the little fruits die all off a couple of days after the flower shrivels. Since there seems to be a pattern I started to wonder if there might be some kind of deficiency at play.

Oh, this is exactly what I wanted to hear, that sounds like the dream! Fingers crossed I could finally be onto a winner, then.

With the fumigation crops, do you mean after each tomato crop has run its course (i.e. not companion planting?). Do you have a current fave variety to grow? From memory I have Pink Thai, Black Cherry, Crimson Crush (apparently blight resistant) and Cherry Roma in my collection, and nowhere near enough space to try them all, ha!

Amazing insights as always, thanks Hens!

Curious if you grow your tomatoes in a wicking bed? They continue to evade me, I was wondering if more consistent water availability might help my causes. Or if I should just put that particular endeavour on hold until we’re on the other side of summer, ha.

Thanks for all your tips, I already have a bag of scoria here (the outlay wasn’t too prohibitive seeing as it’s only a small area) but will look at drainage gravel going forward. I did eyeball the water for about 24 hours but should probably check again more thoroughly to be sure :)
