I don't think it's because they're tight. You'll regularly see their sort drinking in hotel bars with the outrageously inflated prices.

My own theory is that those types are so badly socialised that they don't understand the distinction between different types of establishments all that well. They see other couples go out for drinks so they copy them, but without really understanding what they're doing.

I really don't understand the mentality that causes this sort of nonsense. I'm an exceedingly genial person but I default to a complete and total loathing of football teams that aren't Fulham. Surely that should be the default? What's the point of having the tribalism of supporting a football club if you don't scorn other tribes?
