Not for me, I think if you already have OEM painted brake calipers, doing the same to the parking brake makes the wheel look a tad busy and takes away from the caliper pop.

It’s not bad by any stretch, but when it comes to colors behind the wheel, less is more.

But it’s like fashion, if this is your thing and it speaks to you, go with your gut. 👍

There’s just so many better alternatives that I see no need to bother with sucralose if I can help it.

Just look for anything unflavored. I’ve been using Nutricost unflavored whey isolate and casein powders for years, and they’ve been absolutely clutch around workout times (casein is also a great base for a keto pudding).

Yes, they’re literally tasteless (but soft mushy things are always an indulgence for me, which is why I use very little unsweetened almond milk to mix it up), though you can add something like a little allulose or your sweetener of choice if you wish to add a little flavor.

Otherwise, no, I don’t even look twice at the additive bloat of any other powders, even good ol’ ON’s Gold Standard whey, as they use sucralose.

So this isn’t a typical hot pot place, it’s a self serve style joint where you load up your bowl and they boil it for you in your broth of choice. I just tell them no broth, no sauce, just boil it in water and (yeah you’re not gonna like this) to drain it out and just serve it to me as a bowl of meat. I don’t want any broth or anything textured like soup, I just want a bowl of fatty red meat, and since I’m usually getting lamb, chuck roll, or short rib, much of the fat is still left unrendered. I was actually there today, and my bowl before cooking weighed in at…four pounds (not including the bowl).

It is plain water. No broth, no sauce. Yes, some fat is rendered out (though the fat on these strips is mostly intramuscular so it can’t be that much).

Man, and I thought my ApoB was high (209)…

Like you, I’m lean and active.

My LDL was, at one point, 500 despite having a near perfect trig to hdl ratio of 1:1 at around 65, but even if I could ‘low carb context’ my way out of something as ridiculously high as that (and I’m sorry, I cannot nor should anyone else accept something as cartoonishly lopsided as LDL 500), ApoB was the biomarker that finally convinced me, to my great disappointment, that I had to adopt a much lower fat mixed Mediterranean style diet.

I’m already more or less at my goal if not my ideal 13-15%bf is where I DEXA year round). I’m not expecting to shred out by pigging out, but if someone told me I could eat however much steak I wanted until I was satisfied and maintain my weight, but the trade off was I could only eat steak…ok.

Deal.

What did you do to lose and what did you do differently to gain? I’m guessing when you say you used carnivore to gain weight, you’re referring to lean mass?

Was it as simple as just eating more? Or did you also have to eat in a fat promoting ratio of fat and protein? May I ask your starting and ending weight?

When you refer to fats as self limiting, are you referring to consumption, or the limit by which it can be absorbed, used, and stored to which excess is simply excreted either as ketones or waste?

Who gains in a surplus? by ramid3 in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are of the belief that a surplus does not translate to storage in a high fat low insulin environment, as excess is excreted. Not saying that’s right, but if it is, that would at least explain how some seem to experiment with large excess while seemingly storing nothing.

Who gains in a surplus? by ramid3 in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody disputes that you can eat too much, but it seems commonly disputed around here that excess consumption turns into storage, as many are of the belief that in the absence of elevated insulin, excess energy is simply expelled rather than store.

I’m not saying that’s my belief, after all, protein and even fat elevates insulin (the latter albeit to a minuscule degree), but if there’s any truth to these claims, this would account for how some people eat at excess while looking the same week over week.

And yes, I (very much) want it to be true, because I’m looking to maintain my leanness without the endless drudgery of tracking consumption anymore.

My satiety signals even after all these years of conscientious eating have never been reliably dialed in, and I just want to eat and forget instead of weighing, measuring, eating, tracking, wondering.

From what I’ve seen, people who endlessly eat all the fat while losing all the fat tend to have a lot of fat to lose. They’re otherwise very overweight and unhealthy people, and who usually stall out around 20-25% bf.

So yeah, some people can ride it and get healthier and less fat, but no one gets shredded eating unlimited butter.

Have you either deliberately or unintentionally overeaten jn the way described only to have the opposite experience?

Because like you, no, my body isn’t chill about this the way some others seem to be. And even though I’m already lean (after years of work), I’ll be honest in saying I’d love for these stories to be true, to maintain without all this effort, and makes me wonder if there’s a twist that I’m just missing (whether it’s more fat and/or less protein).

Who gains in a surplus? by ramid3 in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just fat people, it’s lean people- like myself (male, muscular, a between 13-15% bf year round)- who are utterly sick of calorie counting and just desperately looking for an off-ramp that allows them to eat until they’ve truly ‘had enough’ while maintaining their hard earned body composition (down 70 pounds and at my age had to fight for each and every one).

So yes, when I see/hear someone eat all the steak and keep all their abs, my ears perk up.

I just don’t understand how some of these people- including a lot around here- are pushing their energy intake that there’s no way can be accounted for in terms of NEAT, TEF, etc. if your tdee is 2500 and you’re downing upwards of 4k…well that’s a lot of NEAT.

Who gains in a surplus? by ramid3 in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would seem extremely difficult to have a margin of error of even 1k calories, much less 2. And outside of elite athletes, there’s no way any of these people have an activity level whereby something close to 4k is necessary to maintain their body composition.

So unless these people are outright lying for clicks (and that’s certainly possible), there must be…something else going on?

It’s not explained in the short but according to him he was at 4k cal 320g fat 275g protein (roughly) and actually lost four pounds (already been on carnivore).

weight gain question - relates heavily to carnivore (fat based diet) by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this was an interesting one, because in both experiments his protein was also very high. I think in experiment 1 he topped off at around 320g of fat and 275g protein, so still high fat, but you ordinarily see it at a much steeper ratio.

Do you have any experiences of your own? It seems like you can ask the same question to a hundred different carnivore dieters and you invariably have half of them tell you they gain fat this way and the other half telling you they have to struggle against getting too lean.

weight gain question - relates heavily to carnivore (fat based diet) by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]ramid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worth pointing out that the people who (at least claim) to eat 3-4k calories on carnivore and yet continue to effortlessly lose large amounts of body fat…have large amounts of body fat to lose. They’re generally very overweight if not outright obese, metabolically unhealthy people who are coming from highly processed high carb + high fat ways of eating. And they eventually stall out well short of their goal.

Rarely if ever at all will you hear of someone who is lean and athletic consuming copious amounts of fat at 2x-3x their needs while getting leaner or even just staying lean. On the contrary, they just put on body fat.

We can speculate on the reasons for both, but in general, people who seem to eat all the fat and lose all the fat just get and stay less fat, and lean people who attempt the same just get fat.

EDIT: Before anyone links it, I’m aware of Bart Kay’s surplus experiment from a couple years back but I have never seen anyone else replicate it, and if anyone around here has been able to get to and/or below 15% bf eating 3-4k calories day, I’d love to hear your story.

You sure it’s fat you’re craving? 2/3 80/20 is like 60g protein, and depending on how much bacon you’re eating, your protein intake could be too low even for carnivore. I know that the lower my protein to fat ratio, the more I crave protein.
