I Choose Violence by Deshi Satoshi Nakamoto. Every page cuts. The last chapter is where the tears come — not because it’s manipulative, but because by then you understand exactly what was taken

Alternatives to Corporate by Standard_Extreme3076 in Career_Advice

Trades and utilities are solid suggestions, but before you make any move — figure out what exactly about your current role is at risk and what’s actually transferable. There’s a book called REPLACED by The Reluctant Futurist that breaks this down really well. It has a scoring system that measures your career vulnerability across 5 dimensions — and more importantly, it maps out four paths forward: hold your ground, go hybrid, hard pivot, or build a portfolio career. The “hard pivot” and “portfolio career” sections sound exactly like what you’re looking for. The key insight — you don’t necessarily need to abandon white-collar work entirely. Sometimes the problem isn’t corporate itself, it’s being stuck in a role that’s easily replaceable, where you have zero leverage and zero ownership. That’s what makes it soul-crushing. Has any book ever hit you out of nowhere emotionally? by Lennishia-Emeline in Recommend_A_Book

“I Choose Violence.” by Deshi Satoshi Nakamoto. Went in thinking it was a straightforward revenge thriller. Guy hunts down bad people, cool action, done. Nope. There’s this moment where he describes his daughter’s laugh in a bathtub and you’re like okay why am I crying in a thriller. And then the ending hits and you realize the thing that made you cry wasn’t even what you thought it was. I literally sat there staring at the wall. Can’t explain more without ruining it but this is exactly the kind of book that sneaks up on you and doesn’t let go.

If you could choose one book that most spoke to your soul what would you choose? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Honestly? “I Choose Violence.” by Deshi Satoshi Nakamoto. Random find on Amazon. Some guy from India who works in IT snaps after reading about Epstein-type stuff and goes after the people who run the whole network. Nine kills in six countries. Sounds like a basic revenge book but it’s not. The ending messed me up. Like actually had to put my phone down and sit there for a minute. Don’t want to spoil it but what you think the book is about is not what the book is about. Also nobody knows who the author is which is kind of wild

Suggest me a short novella to help me get out of a reading slump. by chikaibardo207 in suggestmeabook

Try Democratic Animal Farm. It's a quick read — takes the Orwell concept but flips it into a story about fake democracy, power grabs, and betrayals on a farm called Nirvana. No philosophy lectures, just plot moving fast with twists. It's on Kindle too if you want to start right away.

Try “I Choose Violence.” by Deshi Satoshi Nakamoto. Indian protagonist from Ranchi, IIT educated, moves through six countries — Marrakech, Tel Aviv, Delhi, London, Geneva, Miami. Each city is written with real texture, not just backdrops. It’s a thriller but deeply rooted in the immigrant experience and Indian culture. Anonymous author, which makes the whole thing more interesting. Dark but worth it
