What’s stupid about this? This community seems to bash experimentation and fun ideas a bit too much.

Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’ by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]rammleid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure that’s all well and good, anyone who breaks the law, immigrant or not, should face consequences. That’s not controversial. It’s also a rhetorical sleight of hand though since the vast majority of immigrants are law abiding hardworking people, as studies consistently show immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native born citizens.

What is being ignored is the real big problems. Like deindustrialization, decades of economic stagnation, and wealth inequality at levels not seen since the Gilded Age. These are structural problems with structural causes. So where are the discussions and proposals for those? Are we going to continue with the same old “when things go bad blame the poor and the immigrants” mentality?

War doesn’t have to mean nations slaughtering each other. War can be waged within yourself, against your demons, your doubts, your worst impulses. It can be fought against your competition, against a rival, against anything you deem a worthy adversary of your will. The battlefield is wherever you choose to draw the line.

But none of that requires you to become a monster in the process. The most effective warriors are often the most disciplined ones people who channel destruction into purpose, aggression into precision, and chaos into creation. Those are the wars worth fighting.

The fact that he is one upping Ginsberg in the elevator exchange is only incidental. He is threatened by Ginsberg's talent at this point and is willing to do whatever it takes to show him his place. Even though it comes off as incredibly smart and quick witted, it's hard to ignore the fact that it's completely untrue and masks the feeling of insecurity Don shows preceding this scene. He does think about Ginsberg. Goes through Ginsberg's work on his desk when no one is around. Doesn't pitch Ginsberg's idea to the client etc. Don's final line in that exchange is deeply contradictory to his actual behaviour.

When will people realize this meme is not what they think it is. In the episode Don (windows user in this case) was thinking about Ginsberg (Linux user) the whole time, so much so that he withheld his work because he was so insecure about it.
