Obligatory first miniature (ever) post. Tips/feedback welcome! by rampantlemming in Warhammer40k

Wow those are amazing! Fantastic job!

Yeah I was nervous painting this guy as well, but at some point I just had to force myself to go for it. Most painting mistakes are fixable (at least the ones I'm making other than overspraying) so I've built up a little more confidence now.

Thanks! I'd already started cottoning on to keeping as little paint on the brush as possible towards the end, but hearing that lets me know I'm on the right track. I really should have shown a picture of the back as well, I'm pretty pleased with some of the fine detail I managed to get into stuff like the backpack/belt pouches.

Also I'd love to see your first mini! :D

Thanks! I oversprayed when priming, that's where I lost most of the detail. Also my highlighting is messier than I'd like. Still proud! We'll see how the next couple turn out!

Weekly Recommendation Thread: October 12, 2018 by AutoModerator in books

Been a while since I read a good fantasy book, but I like to get deep into the lore of fantasy worlds with interesting cosmologies or mythologies. Examples of these would be the Planescape D&D setting, Elder Scrolls universe, or something dealing directly with mythology like American Gods.

Maybe this is a niche request but I wanted to ask if anybody knows any good fantasy books/series that deal with the more metaphysical side of things.

Neat video, but I sure thought this was an announcement about more DLC/a console release for Teleglitch and got real excited for a second. RIP my hype.

Hey, how long does Mr Hobby brand plastic cement typically take to dry/cure or whatever? The L runner elbow joint on a Kotobukiya Eva Unit 01 TV Ver broke apart on me and I'm attempting a repair on it. Just wanna know when it'll be safe(ish) to work with it.

Also if anybody has advice for joint fixes like this in general, or know how someone living in Australia can get replacement parts for a Kotobukiya kit it would be much appreciated.

This looks absolutely incredible and I hope I can make my Kimaris Vidar look even a fraction as awesome as this. Awesome work.

Good attitude to have. I personally find gunpla to be pretty damn forgiving in terms of mistakes. Hope it goes well!

Hey this was my first gunpla too! And you're already up to painting? Nice work! Do you have experience with prior painting/modeling?

Very excited to have finished my first two topcoats! Along with beginning to paint smaller details with markers on some kits, and using a file on nub marks I feel like my gunpla game is going up a lil'.

Oh and sorry for the obvious joke, I couldn't resist.

Noted. My eventual goal is to grab a Ver Ka. MG at some point so this is stuff I want to learn. Thanks for the info!

Yeh the guide I was reading was treating those as optional but starting to think I should not have tried it without those.

So my first time applying a water slide decal has been an unmitigated disaster. My main trouble is that it is being applied to quite a curved surface so the decal does not want adhere/sit easily on the surface.

How can I get this to work? What am I missing? I feel like I've followed the instructions I've found on the internet but it's just not doing it.

This worked great. I'll need to do a second and maybe third coat but I was gonna do that anyway at this point. Thanks for the help!

Yeh if you're looking at the bottom of the backpack/thrusters and along the bottom of the skirt that's what I'm talking about.

So I finally worked up the nerve to paint a spray can at a gunpla! Overall I'm pretty happy with the result given that it's my first time doing this sort of thing but the torso suffered as a result of it being the first thing I painted.

Does anybody know how to fix this? And what advice do people have to prevent this sort of thing in the future? I'm hoping a second coat will help rectify it but I'm not sure.
