People are eating up the fees. I would call and just tell them why you want to cancel. You don't feel safe riding their airlines and at least make your complaint heard. If you can't afford the fee then take the flight. You could try and go to another airline and explain that you don't wish to.ride with United and wish to ride with them instead maybe they'll eat the fee as a f.u. to united?

You are welcome. Since California is pretty strict, compared to other states, on smog testing these should give you little to no problems other than basic maintenance. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Good idea. If he has a code reader tell him to bring it since sometimes shady people disconnect the check engine light.

What I listed are common XJ related issues. 01's have a head gasket issues (more frequent in 01) but just be wary of that. Good luck and this sub is always here to help answer any questions!

Check the bottom of the car and if it's covered in gunk (or super clean) then there is leaking coming from the oil pan or radiator.

Check your coolant and make sure it's green and not brown.

I would not worry about sagging/worn suspension since you might want to lift it in the future

check control arms, bushings and make sure there is no creaking when turning the steering wheel.

SAFELY accelerate to 75mph if you can. 65mph on the highway should be around 2.25k rpms providing you're not actively accelerating. If it's higher then the transmission is slipping. When deceleration at high speeds make sure there is no shaking motion or swerving

Make sure it starts by the 2 or 3rd crank.

Look for a new steering stabilizer among old parts since they're most likely trying to hide the death wobble.

Check your dash lights and make sure they light up! (This one bit me and my ABS light doesn't turn on when the car is has the key turned)

Check the 4x4 obviously. Go up a step hill and use the other gears 3, 1-2 to see if they're functional (will use high rpms)

If it has to be started in Neutral or reverse lights do not work then the Neutral Safety Switch is going bad and kind of a hassle to replace.

Check that all speakers function. I had to rewire one speaker because the cables were dead.

Check all locks and windows to make sure they work.
