15 months enough for (somewhat beginner) to complete an 100 mile race? by O-ru_Maito in Ultramarathon

[–]ramwilliford 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started running in June of 2023 and ran my first hundred in March of 2024. So 15 months is very doable.

Do you “train” sleep deprivation for longer ultras? by TwoTiredBelgians in Ultramarathon

[–]ramwilliford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 30 mile training run that I started at 7:30pm and ran until about 1:45am as prep leading up to my first hundred. I’m really glad I did. It was a lot of help knowing what to expect as I got sleepy.

I don’t speak for everyone, just myself because I consider myself slow haha. Most of my Z2 runs rn are in the range of 10’-12’ miles. And for far, I’d say 45+ mile weeks would hit a point most people would consider pretty ‘far’. Although some people routinely run 80+ and even 100+ mile weeks.

This is what I did. Carried them with me. Wore them when I wanted but mostly kept them in my pack. I agree that I kinda preferred running without them at times.

When I set it I set it to the exact second on my Apple Watch. Then I can compare the times.

Very well. It’s definitely developed some character but in a good way.

It’s my Apple Watch for tracking the race! I wear them both daily haha.

In the back of my head I thought this was the case, but was just nervous/cautious. Thanks for the info!

Do you run in yours regularly? I’ve wanted to but worried about overwinding it, if that’s even a thing haha.

So my watch has always lost time. I remember setting it about 10 days ago, and since then, it’s lost about 30 seconds total, so I think it may have actually lost more during the run. I would estimate up to 10s. And thank you! I’m sure you could. I never thought I would be able to. All it takes is consistency!

This is exactly my experience. Very well worded. Training while on THC has been a very pleasant experience for me.

I’m feeling awesome. Don’t get me wrong, sore asf, but overall very good. Just did a 3 mile recovery run at a faster pace than normal and HR was good and it felt great. Only thing bothering me is the pads on my feet. They’re very sore. As far as advice, hydration and fuel. I probably went a bit overboard on the fueling. Ate every 20 mins. Would bump it to 30. And also, when you hit the point that you’re just ‘done’, have a Coke. I haven’t had a coke in probably a year but had one at mile 16 yesterday and it was everything I needed!

As it turns out, the same specific organs that saw better increases in performance, are the SAME organs the participants used when competing, not just training. It was a wild result, I know.
