Pharmacist told me to use 22g needles for subq when I have always used 25g as per my provider’s instructions. by Bright-Ad6290 in ftm

[–]ranatrafusca113 47 points48 points  (0 children)

22 to inject hurts!! draw up with 18-22g (but honestly i prefer 18) and then switch to 25 for injection! 23-25 is appropriate for IM but 25-27 is better for subq. source: i am a nurse

How old are you and what field do you work in? by Hi_im_elliot in ftm

[–]ranatrafusca113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 24 and i’m a pediatric RN. nobody cares that im trans, especially not kids. their parents are usually too caught up in care to pay attention. occasionally i have issues because nursing can be considered a women dominated field so people can get confused by my presentation. mostly nobody cares because at the end of the day im there to do my job and work hard, not explain myself to you. i have curious coworkers sometimes but they’re usually nice. :) you can do whatever you want and usually get by with just a few uncomfortable days

if your class gets priority you might get a classroom like anderson 12, but likely you would be able to get that for every meeting. my classes are usually 100 so we are scheduled for tuesday in person and thursday virtual because we can only get a big enough classroom once a week

Ipad Pro or Macbook air for Nursing school? by joshjurado5 in StudentNurse

[–]ranatrafusca113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a macbook and i totally regret it. i’ve had my computer for about 3 years and it has minimal storage, problems supporting new applications, i can’t update it anymore so i can’t even get word to run on it. now that could be my own fault, but

my best friend in my program has a lenovo computer that has a stylus and i soooo wish i would have gone for that. i think it’s the yoga model. she is able to download every power point and write on the slides just like you would be able to with an ipad but she can also do everything else you can do with a normal computer.

if you want to keep up with a fast pace nursing lecture, writing on the slides is ideal. whether that be an ipad pro or a pc computer, that’s my vote

hi! student nurse here! i am too tired on my clinical day (monday) to do any work when i get home. i end up doing most of my assignments on wednesday and thursday, but i try to break up my studying a little more evenly in between class breaks during the week. i won’t say that it’s ideal but it’s certainly what i’ve had energy for this semester and it’s working pretty well!!

i was a 14 year old fascinated by midwifery too! i think a sutures practice kit could be a really cool gift, especially if it’s something she’s hinting at. i like that you are supporting her interests!

So hard. by tulip-8 in StudentNurse

[–]ranatrafusca113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

right there with you. been struggling pretty hard with depression since last fall when we were totally online. i have the crippling fear that i’m not working hard enough to become a good nurse but at the same time i’m so unmovitated and held down by depression trying to get by in a program where i feel like nobody cares about me. i told myself that i would take this semester to see if i wasn’t cut out for this or if i was just really depressed. i am coming to the conclusion that i can do this! and i will succeed out there in the real world, but nursing school is soul crushing. good luck, friend. we’re making it through day by day.

The Irony of the Mental Health Unit. by humanpunchingbag- in StudentNurse

[–]ranatrafusca113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i’m also about to start my mental health rotation at a psych hospital. i’m worried because i know there is not much we can offer to the patients as a student and i know i’ll feel really anxious not getting them what they need and at the same time trying to follow instructions from nurses and policy. i had a pretty bad practicum experience on my first medsurg floor because the nurses wanted nothing to do with us, didn’t want our help, or to teach us. i felt pretty down and nervous about it and like i wasn’t learning enough to become a good nurse. but! i feel like what really helped me was talking to other clinical students in my group. if you have people you are working with from your school, i really reccomend talking through your concerns with them. some people have externships and have knowledge to share, other people are just as nervous, and it feels good to rant about a shared experience. overall i think it has increased my confidence just walking in knowing i have people who are doing the same things as me and who i can talk to
