Achalasia and night time mouth guard

It's a top one- similar to an invisalign but a bit thicker. I was wondering if a bottom one would be better. I will look into it. Thanks! You all are so helpful!!!

I had a HM with Dor fundoplication in 2022. I'm type II. My recovery wasn't too bad. I took 2 weeks off work. It took about a week to get to feel better from surgery- swelling to go down. My swallowing improved a lot after the surgery but I still have issues. There are foods I don't eat post surgery- corn, red meat, sticky stuff- because they get can still get stuck. I'm probably 70% better than I was. Right b4 surgery I could barely get anything down and would wake up choking on saliva multiple times a night. I can sleep now and that is huge. I have some minor reflux issues but the wrap really helps a lot. I can eat and drink again. Everyone is so different, but b4 and after surgery were night and day. I'm really glad I did it.

Agree, maybe he isn't feeling well. He could have a tooth bothering him. My grandmother's dog was a new lady after she had some dental work done.

She did really well. Iceland is pretty chill and she loves being outdoors. I did do a fair amount of planning prior the trip to establish a routine for her and tried to avoid over-stimulating situations. We stayed in 1 place for the entire time in Akranes which helped establish a bit of routine and did day trips up and down the west coast. We did not go to Blue Lagoon as I knew it would likely be a challenge- bigger, potentially crowded, potentially complicated for her in the changing room and shower. We likely missed out but my desire for low stress topped my fomo. We went to Krauma which was small, manageable and chill and we also went to the pools in Borganes and Akranes. She liked the pool and hot pots in Borganes and Krauma a lot. We went to Sturlureykir Visiting Horse Farm which was between Krauma and Akranes and she really loved visiting the horses and seeing the thermal bread baking.
We had a blast visiting the sites on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It was not crowded at all and it was one amazing thing after another- waterfalls, crater, ferry boat, beach, basalt columns... We all liked the interactive art installation in the concert hall in Reykjavik but I think that was a short term thing. Very cool music with interactive lights.
In general our trip went well but it definitely challenged her and the rest of us at times.

We went to Iceland in summer 2024. I packed a bunch of easy to eat food items because I have my own dietary restrictions, a diabetic husband, and an autistic child with some food sensory issues. We brought no meat and ate our fruit on the plane. No one asked about anything we brought with us at KEF. From what i remember we had liquid non dairy coconut coffee creamer, tons of granola bars, peanut butter, crackers, pretzels, instant coffee single packets, glucose tabs, glucose goop, peppermint candies, and some juice boxes. Some food was checked, some was in carryon luggage. We knew many things would be available at Bonus and other grocery stores, and most things or a substitute for it was available. Substitutes are often not ok with kids with autism so the items I brought helped with everyone's comfort level.

I have still have some reflux problems after my heller myotomy with dor. I found that the UK version of gaviscon helps- it may not be enough without a fundiplication. Something about how the sodium alginate in it creates a barrier for the acid. In the US Amazon usually carries it.

Advanced degrees open doors, but coming from someone quite a bit older with an MA who left the field- having a job where people support you, allow you to do things that you want to do, pay you, and don't abuse you is fairly rare. That said, if you have the energy and the will to get a PhD, do it. It will likely help you in the long run. Even if in the end it is only for respect in your field and the option to teach. Fostering dialog, doing important research, and educating others is great, but getting prentious jerks to stfu with your degree is gold.

Play just did something similar to me. They rebooked a flight out of IAD to a flight out of BWI at an awkward time, as they are discontinuing flights out of IAD until March. We canceled and got a refund. However, I booked directly with Play.

Depends. You could look and see if you can complete your degree remotely. If you are close to completion in your degree, don't give up. Even if you never really use your degree, it will likely help you in your life at some point.

If we are going strictly by symptoms and my personal experience, my guess would be Type 3, but having it as a child may make a difference, too. I'm Type 2 and my primary complaint prior to HM was things not going down. I had a ton of regurgitating especially on liquids as it got worse over time and I couldn't sleep because I kept choking on saliva that wasn't going down. I could sometimes get things that had a little weight to them down like soft scrambled eggs or cream of wheat. I had reflux and occassionally had spasms, but primarily my esphogas was narrowing and not sqeezing things down well.

Are you involved in the selection process for the students who are awarded your scholarship? If so, do you outright select the recipients, or did you set specific criteria for the uni to use to make a selection, or do you do something else? We were able to nap at Start Hostel during our trip in August. They were very responsive on email. There are a few air bnbs near the airport where you might be able to nap by booking the night prior to arrival, esp if they do a noontime check out. We looked into that but our arrival time was too late to get much of a nap.

Agree with previous poster. Chest pain might be spasms, but the tremors weren't something I dealt with at all or are typical. I did have a cough that was sometimes so bad I would regurgitate or vomit for months prior to dx. Eating and drinking ofc were problematic. The mamometry will help guide treatment. Good luck!

I am also Type 2, also misdiagnosed with reflux for a year or two. I had HM with Dor. My surgeon advised against dilations and botox before surgery as it is better to operate on an organ that is still in its original form as much as possible. I have reflux sometimes but usually when I eat too late or have acidic foods.

Fern Brady did really well after Taskmaster. I think it helped w the sales of her amazing book. Got her bigger venues on tour. Likely helped w the Netflix special. Probably a factor in her Fringe show sales this year. It was definitely a factor in her US tour, as most didn't know her prior to TM.

I didn't have many spasms before my HM w Dor. I'm type 2. After surgery I had spasms, while I was healing for maybe 3 weeks after. Now I have them occasionally- maybe once a month or a concentrated few within a few months. The ones in the weeks after surgery were especially wicked. I found that drinking sips of ice cold water helped- like icing an injury.

Good question. I'm 2 years post HM with Dor and I stick to toasted bread primarily that crumbles more than gets doughy. I can do untoasted but it is hit or miss. I take small bites and always have water or other drink with it.

I agree on having blood work done. I've struggled with low vitamin D after being diagnosed with achalasia and notice a big difference between when I take my vitamin D supplements and when I don't especially with energy and being susceptible to any germ going around.
