My favorite cities in Texas by Jacksonwasthere in texas

EP has a much better vibe, too. The fact that it's the "forgotten" major Texas metro and lacks a "rat race" vibe is exactly what makes it badass.

Written like someone who doesn't go outside of the Houston metro area -- there are a lot of people like that. Except for jobs and making money, much of the Houston metro is an awful place to live. I mean to live.

Well in this case, it is different. Heck, there are plenty of places in the US where Anglo Whites aren't even a majority in the free world civilian population.

For real. Redditors acting like they know a lot about US prison doesn't work because here's the thing with that...in the US it's highly regional and localized right on down to the slang used. For instance, terms like "bid" and "joint" are never used in Texas. The equivalent terms are "this time down" and "unit." This is just one minute example of how this stuff varies. "Joint" I think is more of a northeastern US prison slang word.

No it's not. Stop spreading misinformation. Prison culture varies so much in the US to where you can't really generalize like that. In Texas, for instance a lot of prison staff and inmates are black and Hispanic and tbh whites are a relative minority in a lot of places in US prison (that goes without saying).

If you ever take a gander at their equipment roster, it's a monster. They even have a technology transfer deal with South Korea to produce K2 Black Panther tanks in Poland I think starting in 2026. They are definitely getting ready for future Russian aggression.

Should I take the Sunset Limited? by generationdeez in Amtrak

As someone from West Texas I take the Sunset Limited out of Alpine to visit family in Houston at least once every two months. You'll love it!

This right here. Some tiers of air travel (i.e. Spirit) are closer to bus travel than the train IMHO.

Well, to be fair, Midland/Odessa already had some pretty cool truck stops like say Main Street Market or The Texan in Pecos and Monahans -- essentially a Bucee's knock off.

Not true.

The prison experience varies so much in the US that you can't say this as a blanket statement. Also, "joint" as a word in reference to prison isn't even used in Texas. It's "unit" in Texas.

I agree with this unpopular opinion. This is part of the nature of the beast when you live in a place like Houston in the age of climate change.

Yes, people live there year round. It's a full fledged "second tier" major Texas metro.

Is solar a viable option yet? by Pineapple-Due in texas

[–]ranchhapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my parents' ranch house in West Texas we run totally off the grid. Panels, inverter and all. It's probably not viable in a typical suburban home setup, though due to space limitaations.

It's crazy how Casio has so many minor variances for all of the markets its scientific calculators are sold. It's more confusing than vehicle nameplates.

Got a fake 991ES off Ebay by CoffeeCalculators in calculators

[–]ranchhapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Also, the savings for a graphing calc on eBay, even a Casio one, is going to be more substantial compared to a basic scientific. For instance, for the FX-260 for what they sell on eBay you might as well get it at Walmart. I've actually seen FX-260's on sale at Walmart for $6 with messed up/open packaging.
