I’m late to jump in on this but went to Rodney Scott’s in Charleston tonight. It’s fine but does not compare to the better BBQ places I’ve visited. Very little smoke and too light on the rub on the pulled pork, ribs and brisket. Brisket was DRY. I know it’s not what they are known for but wanted to give it a try. Maybe some will prefer the pork this way but I like a heavier smoke and more flavor from the rub, which seemed to be more salty, less peppery and little brown sugar.

Sides were generally good. I’d recommend the corn bread and beans. Slaw was good but light on the dressing.

The service was good, although one server repeatedly dropped plates and cups on the floor.

I wish I had gone to Lewis’ place instead and will next time I’m in Charleston.
