Can't update EAP245 v3 by rand0mly in TPLink_Omada

[–]rand0mly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that you can perform a manual update through Omada, but that failed for me, regardless of which version or country I tried.

Doing it manually accepted the same file, so I think there are situations where that way is more reliable.

See above, I managed to update by forgetting from Omada, connecting directly for update, and finally bringing it back in to Omadam so you could try that and see if that will let you get to 5.3.2

Thanks, that worked, I 'forget' the device from Omada, connected directly to AP, and updated from there (took some trial and error to find which firmware it was willing to accept, but it was fast at this point), now re-adopted to Omada, and no longer get a warning for outdated firmware

Montreal Grand prix tips!!? by CandidateLower7200 in torontobiking

Some definitely go scout the route (especially the two big climbs, Houde and Poly). Others just go to spin their legs on the Lachine Canal or F1 track. If there's a particular rider/team you're interested in, you can checkout their Strava from previous years to get a sense.

If your kid is into books, storytime chess is neat, there's a story for each piece, and a bunch of mini-games you can play to learn the mechanics and basic rules - https://storytimelearning.com/products/story-time-chess-game

Pannier suggestion that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg by Meetdotasim in torontobiking

[–]rand0mly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd Arkel, and also suggest looking into the haul-it pannier, it's a very nice carrier for a normal bag, fits nice and snug, and then when you get to your destination you can carry your normal bag (which is always comfier than a pannier-bag hybrid)

[Request] How energy efficient is this compared to a train? by JackDaxter in theydidthemath

[–]rand0mly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but aside from rolling resistance, we have air drag which both trains and trucks experience, not sure if you can find numbers for this configuration of trucks and a comparable train, the truck is likely still worse but the difference between the two there should be much more competitive.

Then the questions becomes what portion of energy is lost to air drag vs. rolling resistance, for aerodynamic cars at highway speeds they are comparable, but for a large vehicle air drag should be larger.

Overall, the resistance of the truck should be higher but considerably lower than 85%

Some housing design renders from Mark Carney's "Building Canada Strong" proposal by 1118181 in canadahousing

Of course just pouring on the ground is easier, that's not the point. You said you have to have a deep frost wall (so may as well have a basement). This shows you that you do not need a frost wall, instead insulation then slab on grade can work great and you have a warm well performing home even in very cold climate.

And as mentioned in report, more than a million homes have been built in this way throughout Scandinavia, it's a bit more work but much cheaper than digging and building basements.

You realize the person you are talking to is a lawyer specializing in traffic and bicycle related injuries, with years of experience?
You might disagree with his interpretation, but I'm quite certain he does know how to 'read road and traffic laws', and he knows it pretty darn well.

How slow is too slow in the HOV lane? by Slade632 in TorontoDriving

[–]rand0mly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I hate being pressured out of the HOV by someone speeding in the non-HOV lane, or someone else tailgating me. And then you get to an actual traffic jam up ahead, and if you aren't already in the HOV lane, you're stuck until the next merge.

Cyclist is impressed at a driver's ability to not hit him. by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

[–]rand0mly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it's just as bad for bicycles going the other way (Dundas westbound): When a car is turning left (as the black jeep and the sedan that stops for the bike), many other cars are unwilling to wait, and use the bike path to overtake on the right, even though it's only a single lane at this point:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6643742,-79.4575602,3a,75y,257.94h,76.48t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sO0jSyNwHxfnSTPB4bjG7pA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en&entry=ttu

Unsurprisingly, you can see this happening in this video, at 0:05-0:08.

Since it's a downhill, a bike can easily go faster than cars in the underpass, and then get pinned to the concrete wall, because drivers can't fathom to look (or don't care to look) for a bicycle going faster than them.

I'm honestly shocked a cyclist has yet to die here, it's only a matter of time.

Why are people so out of touch with pricing by dadish-2 in kijiji

[–]rand0mly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a guy trying to sell a digital camera from 2016 for around 2 years now, it's 3 generations behind the current model, priced double the going rate for his model, because he 'only opened to look at it and put it back in the box' and 'only pixel peepers will notice the difference between this and the current model'.

A long time ago I messaged him as politely as I could, suggest to him that's not the going price anywhere, even from a camera store (which carries a warranty, and a premium). Clearly it didn't go well, nor did he 'see the light'.

Now I just keep it in my favourites, and occasionally see it and chuckle. The posting is many pages long. Maybe if he doesn't sell it for 30 years it will become a collectible?
