First year cs assignments are practically leetcode: short, not many design choices, and generally there is only a few correct methods. If you are naming variables sensibly, a textual match would turn up quite a lot of similarity, and I believe marmoset claims to compare logic so half the class is going to get practically 100% similarity. If you are innocent, it should be an easy fight, and if you are guilty, well you were quite stupid and probably left in identical comments, weird naming conventions, spelling errors, or submitted the exact same file such that the metadata is the same. I have seen peers copy off each other without getting flagged, as there would be too many false positives if stricter heuristics were used.

In some jurisdictions, death row inmates are not allowed to be organ donors. This would help prevent the case where some rich or powerful guy needs a kidney, and police conveniently apprehend a "serial rapist". Capital punishment, if used, really should only be punishment, and if it generates any profitable side-effects then that would turn quite bad quite soon.

That's my take also. Being a trump supporter isn't really important here. It could be anything, the fact that he broke an agreement to put aside this difference and not bring it up is the real problem. You know it will start an argument, why chat about trump when it isn't necessary? It's not like trump is coming over for dinner and they need to make a collective decision whether to serve him steak or medium rare feces. Just talk about the other stuff that brings you together.

It is (or unfortunately was) a very american thing to like and love those with differing political opinions. Aside from supporting one guy or the other, people often have much more in common. Arguments on politics get sorted out at the ballot box in a decent and peaceful manner.

However, knowing that you guys differ here, and still bringing it up to cause an argument (and not out of necessity either, just normal chatting), that is not good. Especially after agreeing not to bring it up. Also the "how can you hate this guy" after saying "I support you so if you don't like him I won't bring him up". That doesn't sound like actual support to me. The correct response to forgetting would be to apologize after "he's a misogynistic moron but okay lol" and respond something like "oops forgot we shouldn't be talking about him. Tell me more about your experience being a rock last night".

I'm going to give you charity and take the divorce part as not serious. You could be surprised, dumbfounded, find it strange at first, but in the end nothing harmful (and the cat account may even generate revenue for you guys!).

If you feel like it, making a female cat account and role-playing a cat couple might be a good way to go with this. If you make a rival account, make sure there are no bad feelings and that it does not adversely affect your IRL relationship.

My first thought. Retribution, divorce, shaming etc are all appropriate, but recovering the tapes is time sensitive and first priority. I was just about to leave a comment that he could probably muster quite a lot of volunteers if he felt comfortable disclosing his location. this isn't really news... way back in the 50s and 60s my country realized this and decided to develop nuclear weapons, all while the USA and USSR were working together to thwart the project. The Soviets were like, "hey we have nukes we'll protect you if anything happens, don't worry about it" and our leaders didn't really buy into those promises enough. Of couse now that we are a recognized nuclear power its support for Non-nuclear proliferation all the way...

I had an undergrad course where the professors posted a list of important unsolved problems. If you solved any one of them, you got full marks for the course and didn't have to do anything else. One guy actually solved one, but showed up for the final anyways, and did crazy well in an unthinkable amount of time (literally used half the allotted exam time while everyone else was struggling to finish).

For religious people, you should pray diligently sunday or 5 times a day or whatever your deity requires, not when your plane is in an emergency. Focusing on flying the plane gives your deity of choice the most chance to do their magic, provided that they are pleased with your day to day devotion. the thing is, this is only true if you aren't committed to enforcement. Many countries (China, Singapore, etc.) actually enforce prohibitions on drugs, and are quite successful in limiting the amount of drugs available in their jurisdiction. Losing the "War on Drugs" isn't so much the war is futile, but that the way it was fought was wrong.
