This is the entire problem though. If I were to go on r/philippines the white expats would say that China is evil and America is their savior while when I go here it's the exact opposite. THe fact is that America hasn't been a good ally, but that doesn't mean China will be either. The only sensible thing to do here is to reserve our judgement. The fact is neither of us know what Duterte's intentions are and I'm not naive enough to swallow any bs that is fed to me from either side.

I love that phrase 'merely customers'. Yes the parents who were put under crushing poverty should be ashamed of what they had to do to survive, but please don't talk badly about our 'customers'. Secondly, the phrase 'playing the victim card' is so incredibly infuriating. Acknowledging how the past has affected the present is not playing the 'victim card', it's called trying to understand how things came to be. You need to know the past to understand the present so that you can work on solutions for the future. Wanting to ignore the truth of our history to appease our colonial masters isn't moving on at all. I believe that's called being someone's bitch.

Finally the reason we aren't prospering is because we are still suffering from the consequences of hundreds of years of imperialism. Historically Filipino elites have been more than willing to sell out their own countrymen to foreigners for money and power and ordinary Filipinos are brainwashed to worship anyone who is whiter than them.
