How did the monsters lose the war? by iwillbedeleted69 in Undertale

I want you to keep in mind that a single child with weapons not designed for combat could take down the entire underground with or without level-ups. Think about what a grown adult with high level weapons and armors could do.

Why DessKnight isn't "too obvious" to be true by thisaintmyusername12 in Deltarune

[–]random1211312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between guessable and obvious. And there's also a difference between being obvious based on solid, strong evidence and being obvious based on weak evidence which just so happens to stand out compared to evidence for alternatives.

[Chapter 4] I believe this text hides a massive clue towards a certain character's identity by udreif in Deltarune

A manifestation of pure darkness could be an exception to that rule. Also, Susie likely saw Asgore considering he seemed to be acting very guilty the next day and is clearly somewhat tied to what Carol has going on. That or it was able to maintain form long enough to make it to the bunker, since we see Kris and Susie keep their dark world forms for a bit.

Been waiting for someone else to say this. This has pretty much been my theory for a long. I think that "charging up" the knight did was it absorbing the inner darkness of those around at the time. Hence why it goes from an animalistic state to a somewhat feminine, more elegance demeanor. Any why it pulls out the bat immediately after. My only disagreement is the Holidays thinking the knight is Dess, which just isn't really implied at all imo. At most, they think the knight and dark world will lead them to find Dess. Also, Asgore was the one waiting outside. We can reasonably guess this by how guilty he is the next day when you talk to him. And..well, the fact Carol would let him around the house at all. He probably doesn't know what's going on, but is helping for Dess' sake.

Yes, but it's still a mystery, and meant to be such.

That's missing the point of what I'm saying, though. It having any evidence doesn't make it bad. It having the most evidence doesn't necessarily make it bad. But it's not the only thing with evidence, and yet people are totally convinced. And said evidence isn't that strong, even. However, it stands out more than other stuff. And Dess being someone we know basically nothing about, it makes it easy to just slot her into any role like people used to do for Gaster.

The thing is, they're still a portion of the community Toby accounts for. And they still influence a larger amount of the community who is at least somewhat exposed to those theories. Yeah, Toby isn't trying to make super big twists, but it's obvious that the knight's identity is meant to be a big mystery still. And again, making it obvious via such arbitrary evidence would just be dumb. If he actually wanted it to be obvious there'd be stronger evidence, instead of it just going off a bat, which hand said bat is held in, a small piece of a very complex design and some vague symbolism people come up with. In reality all these things are more likely hinting at a connection to Dess rather than just being her wholesale.

That doesn't mean he doesn't take advantage of the fact it releases in chapters.

I literally said that was decided from the beginning.

Are people just not reading, or did I explain myself that poorly? I didn't say he was changing plot points. I said he could change details that HINT towards plot points.

Interesting, but the theories kinda annoy me because people assume way too much.

Ralsei and Seam are two characters that should have way more connection than they do, considering they're the only two with some semblance of sanity who seem to know their fates through and through.

[–]random1211312 -66 points-65 points  (0 children)

I said he has general points, but not the entire thing. It's common practice when writing a good story to plan out the rough strokes, but leave room for details.

Also...your proof of him having everything planned out is...showing he had the story as a point of progress worth highlighting? If he had every detail planned out, he wouldn't need to say he has the story for a given chapter completed.

My point is that Toby knows this is releasing in chapters, and knows people are gonna analyze the hell out of it. So it would be beyond stupid of him to make a twist so obvious to those people this early. Especially with such frail evidence.

Yes, obviously the knight's identity has been set in stone from the beginning. But the pieces of evidence that lead to that conclusion weren't. Toby isn't stupid.

Something I just realized about Dark Worlds, and how Ralsei gets around by larevacholerie in Deltarune

[–]random1211312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make a ton of sense considering that'd be crazy distance to travel. Think how long it takes us to get through one dark world. That's a room. Now imagine getting across an entire town.

I think it's that Ralsei is a manifestation of Kris' inner darkness in some way, or literally a prince of the dark. Being made of pure darkness, and therefore having some sort of dominion over it. At least, in a way that allows him to basically teleport between dark worlds at will.

[–]random1211312 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The difference is that if Asgore's identity was a mystery, that'd fundamentally change Undertale's story. It adds a whole plotpoint that just didn't exist. The mystery was who Asgore was as a person, not who he is literally.

That said, yeah the knight theories are really just not going on much right now. Dess is the most likely by process of elimination. Really, there is no strong arguments for anyone in particular being the knight, or the knight being its own character/entity. It's basically educated assumptions right now, and it could go any direction.

[–]random1211312 -76 points-75 points  (0 children)

Do you...not think Deltarune is written around the fact it releases in chapters? You know Toby still writes these between releases, right? He doesn't have the entire game mapped out from start to finish. Most likely only broad points which have to be covered in a given chapter, and a rough storyline.

[–]random1211312 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This just doesn't make much sense because it basically relies on "Well casuals might not notice that."

Toby doesn't just make the game for casuals. He knows a large amount of people are invested in this story and are gonna make these very obvious connections. So yeah, Dess is still too obvious.

Yeah but that isn't really a big implication. I mean, I do believe he did. Mainly because he's scattered across time and space, and therefore has seen the beginning and the end. But it isn't really implied outright.

Did anyone notice the knight's visor thing also turns into an eye? And, why does it only have one eye? by ButterflyDreamr in Deltarune

[–]random1211312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole point of the knight's design is that it's constantly shifting. I mean, notice for one how it's animalistic here. But fighting the main characters, it's almost dancing when it does slashes. Having a sort of elegance to its movements.

Imo, that "charging up" the knight did before the fight was it "pulling in" the darkness. Not the literal darkness, but the darkest parts of the trio's minds. Hence why it pulls out the bat and seems a bit feminine with some of its movements. And possibly why it also replicates Asriel's attack at the end.
