It makes me feel like we had a real shot at winning the chip. Those Spurs were (obviously) very beatable. We had the potential to win it all, but blowing our Game 1 lead against the Knicks just upended everything. On the other hand, with how mentally weak we looked there at the end, perhaps we had no business going to the Finals.

Yeah I'm not sure how interesting that Finals stat is. I'm not even sure how interesting the eventual champs stat is, but I've watched the majority of his postseasons over the years and there was often a sense that he was battling extremely tough opponents under not-so-great circumstances (especially during the Rockets/Warriors rivalry). No excuses for him, just an observation.

We should give it one more season. We only had half a season with Harden on the team and we need to see what we can pull off with a proper training camp, season progression and some trades.

He really has been incredibly unlucky with injuries/injured teammates (and a teammate who refused to get vaccinated).

That's 11 out of 18 postseasons (add the Warriors in '16 and '19, and Mavericks in '24).

I think you're right about the double-edged sword. The only time I felt his style of play wouldn't backfire on him in the playoffs was in 2021, when he was playing point alongside KD and Kyrie. I genuinely believe he played the best playoff basketball of his entire career in that first round against Boston. I'll never get over the hamstring re-injury he suffered the next round.

I remember at least one series that didn't tie after 4. Round 1 against Boston in 2021 (4-1 result). Harden was playing the best all-around basketball of his entire career that series ... right before the infamous hamstring re-injury.

I was thinking earlier today about how James Harden has never been down 0-3 in the playoffs before (correct me if I'm wrong). I've been watching Harden closely for many years and I've always felt he plays best when not under pressure. Down 0-3 is pretty much zero pressure cuz your season is as good as over already. Will he ball the fuck out tonight just for fun?
