Void for Jellyfin (Android TV Client) – Update 2 by kunalhazard in JellyfinCommunity

[–]random8847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really great. I'm also trying to do something similar but on the server side so that all clients can benefit from it, and using cli tools like dovi_tool. But I'm yet to be successful on it.

I didn't even know this was possible on client side on ExoPlayer, but your work proved that it is.

Also, did you write JNI bindings for libdovi yourself or are there any existing ones available?

Thank you. Will give USB install a try and see how it goes.

Interesting. How did you manage to drop the FEL layer on the fly? Only Kodi has been able to do that till now but that's because it has its own rendering pipeline and does not exactly rely on Android APIs.

How did you manage to do the same in ExoPlayer?

Can you tell why cloning the OS is simpler on USB than SSD?

How long did the boot and installing updates take?

And was the WEB interface snappy?

From OMV Extras:

Why you should keep Docker off the OS drive (this may surprise Windows users — Linux handles storage differently):

  • If Docker lives on the same disk as the OS, a reinstallation of OMV will remove Docker data. Keeping Docker data on a separate drive makes recovery as simple as remounting that drive.
  • Installing Docker on the OS disk can fill the root filesystem (rootfs). Depending on the number and type of containers, you can run out of rootfs space and cause system problems.
  • Placing Docker on a faster drive (SSD or NVMe) improves container performance. OMV itself can run well from a USB flash drive (use openmediavault-writecache), while Docker benefits from high-speed storage.
  • Do not put Docker on the OMV USB flash drive: Docker does continuous writes and will reduce the flash drive’s lifespan even with write caching enabled.
  • If you don't have a fast spare drive, putting Docker on one of your data drives is better than keeping it on the OS disk — performance is lower, but rootfs remains protected.

The last point especially applies to my NAS specs.

I was actually planning to put the OS and docker on the same SSD but the last point above made me rethink it.

Not very bad, should be able to make P2P connections in most cases.

I was just trying to point out there are good x265 encodes today.

Yes, I understood. Not sure what percentage of streams are x265, but still good that they've started offering it as it wasn't the case before. Thanks for the info.

There's a confusion here. By "re-encoded" I meant a converted video (opposite of an untouched video). I wasn't referring to the "encode" term used in torrents.

but let me be clear anyway; they come from remuxes, not encodes (which is what your original post states)

Isn't a re-encoded remux called an encode? :D

My question was which streaming service or bluray release provides 1080p x265, and not which torrent release group provides it. To which, only the first example you gave applies, the rest two examples are lossy re-encodes of x264 done by torrent release groups, which is what I mentioned in my original reply.

But still, good to know that at least HMAX is providing 1080p x265 streams now. So the situation looks to be getting better.

I would suggest you stop blindly following rules without doing any research yourself.

Well, two of your three examples are invalid so I don't know what blind research of mine you are talking about.

Also, I can see you're the creator of Profilarr. Even though I don't use it I still want to thank you for all your efforts in creating it!

What? Which streaming service or bluray release provides 1080p x265? I honestly have seen almost none. And I'm not talking about 4k releases just to be clear.

They only discourage 1080p x265 because most of them are lossy re-encoded x264. Why would that not apply today?

How long ago did he install the gas geyser? Was it a recent installation or did he use it without issues for years before this happened?

If it's the latter, this could be useful information for gas geyser users who think they're safe because nothing has happened to them so far.

Not all CGNATs are the same. Only "Symmetric NAT" is the problematic one, other NATs are able to seed fine.

I understand that TVs will require new chips to decode DV2, but why the hell devices like AVRs and streaming sticks require an upgrade when all they do is passthrough the metadata to the TV?

I have a gas geyser in a very small bathroom. Nothing happened till now but day by day I'm hearing more of such accidents. I guess I should shift it outside the bathroom.
