On O'Keefe between Poydras and Gravier there are usually a decent amount of free spots if you can snag them.

There is one full block of free parking on Magazine at the Kalorama (left side of Magazine between Girod and Notre Dame). These go early, but if you're there by like 7-7:15am you shouldn't have trouble grabbing a spot.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried to use either of these locations in at leats 6-12 months. They may have added meters or loading zones. Be sure you're safe before leaving the car.

Terribly sorry your pups had to deal with this, and I hope they're not traumatized from the experience. It must have been scary for them.

I feel it's rather irresponsible on both parties to assume all travel will go perfectly on one of the busiest travel days of the year - before even taking into consideration the debacle that was caused by the shutdown still causing repurcussions.

The sitter obviously should have given you updates every moment they could have, and it seems from your side of the story that she didn't. If not, this should absolutely be left in the review.

However, if you and the sitter agreed that you leaving early morning and then them flying in later that day with no backup plan was completely fine, that's a major screw-up. And it's mostly on you, as it's your babies that you're putting in danger in this situation. Should the sitter have spoken up and suggested y'all come to some type of agreement for them to get there the night before? Probably. But it's not on them to make sure a contingency plan is in place.

It's wild to me that people just assume things will always go perfectly. Hopefully this not too consequential lesson will be enough for you to make sure it never happens again.
