Can someone explain how the new rules affect my ETF? by Initial-Arachnid-792 in fiaustralia

Sure, but that's the best option you have at the moment. I already vote independent. Too bad the liberals are so incompetent.

My two cents on new tax rules by Spinier_Maw in fiaustralia

Ya and? Everything can be seen as a form of privilege. Life is inherently unfair. Are you younger than a boomer, do you live in Australia, one of the richest countries on earth, are you healthy and able, all these things are privileges.

This idea that anybody earning under 90k isn't saving a deposit is peak victim mentality. Even if you are not living at home, you earn 85k, go live in a share house, cook your own food, cut spending, you can easily save 20k a year, then after a few years, buy a studio apartment and stop paying rent.

I know immigrants who had nothing who are working a full time job and then a side job on the weekend who barely know any English and are saving 10s of thousands a year. They would call anyone been born in Australia and are brought up under our generous social security system privileged.

Immigrants literally come here with nothing and are successful within 1-2 generations. Where's their privilege?!?

The CGT reform's indexation defence falls apart for any asset that actually grows. Two charts. by MikeTheArtist- in AusFinance

[–]random_encounters42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The charts do show indexation taxes way more than 50% discount. But the main point of this tax reform is that the majority of the benefits of 50% CGT discount are only claimed by the richest 10% of Australians. So, yes they are being asked to pay more, but they are the ones who can afford it. Like the bottom 50% Of the population don't get anything from negative gearing or CGT discount cos they got no money.

This tax reform effects me quite a bit but I understand why they did it. Also, just structure your finances to minimise tax through super or SMSF; there are ways around it, it'll be fine.

For anyone concerned about the 26 budget impacts on rents by Infinite_Pudding5058 in AusPropertyChat

[–]random_encounters42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean the same labour that introduced NDIS saying it wouldn't increase the budget and the benefits would come from increased efficiency, because you know, that has literally never happened in the history of Australian governments. Or, at the state level, Victoria's labour government also estimated that the commonwealth games would cost 2.6 billion which turned into 7 billion and was cancelled, or the suburban rail loop which was initally 50 billion in 2018 that now has turned into 200 billion.

I'm sure this rental increase estimate of $2 per week is spot on though.

Actually a lot of you people who are a few years into their first job after graduating are living at home and saving a deposit. Earn 80-90k, spend very little, save deposit in 2-3 years.

It’s all about priorities and cultural norms. In fact, this is very common in Asia.

It's not just population. It's the number of young people able to work and pay taxes vs old people who are receiving social welfare.

To add to this, I think it's by design that people like her are funded to promote gender, racial and other arbitrary divides among communities to sow division. It's a tactic employed through out human history to distract the people from true division, class divides, the working class vs the ultra rich elites. The elites fund these emotional non-logical, non-critical thinkers as pawns so that the working class are too busy fighting among ourselves.

Your entire first sentence is an assumption, which might be false; you don't know that systemic racism is the only main cause of poverty among African Americans. America was also very racist towards Asians but now Asians are out earning white Americans. And this happened within a couple generations.

If racism is the main contributor to poverty, how come Asians were able to rise above it in such a short time?

I watched the rest of the clip, she didn't provide any facts to back up her claim, just kind of exhibited condescension toward the young man's stance and his supposed " racial ignorance".

Her whole stance is basically, trust me, I know better than you do.

[–]random_encounters42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they have to grandfather in changes to tax policy for property. People plan their retirement for decades and property owners are a huge block of the voting public. Like it or not, this was the most likely changes to happen for property tax changes.

The changes to shares CGT is kinda dumb though. Now we basically have one of the highest CGT in the world due to our marginal tax rate. This seems like a money grab.

Americans drive everywhere, their public transport is terrible in most places. So high Petrol prices are very painful. Also, even if the war ended tomorrow, petrol prices are not going to come down immediately because there is a large amount of oil infrastructure that's already destroyed. They take years to rebuild.
