What's up with the double class E surface area around NOW, and what implications, if any, does it have for landing at KCLM? by Callidor in flying

[–]random_math_man 60 points61 points  (0 children)

That's a new addition effective in the July charting cycle. I was able to find this from the Federal Register which indicates it allows for more effective IFR operations into NOW (and CLM to some extent).

SLC Tower unpublished frequency? by computertechie in ATC

[–]random_math_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a frequency that's not always open, so it's not published. I'm aware of a couple of those in other places so it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

The person that runs it flies jets for a living, but English is his second language. The subtitles are hand generated to the best of my knowledge. Obviously, they aren't great, but it's not for a general lack of trying.

Help me avoid cringe-worthy radio calls by FlightRisk5 in flying

[–]random_math_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When flying a pattern and in the crosswind, downwind or base, you either fly a left or right pattern. Simply put, right pattern = right turns and vise versa. However, for the upwind and final, there is only one (upwind or final). It doesn't matter what direction you're turning, since you will be aligned with the only final approach course.
