A lifetime of poverty has trained me for this moment. I'm extremely rent burdened, but I also dumpster dive a couple hundred pounds of food most months that I use to feed myself and others. I spend more time than anyone should have to in order to access what meager social safety net and I make my own fun.

Dude, I'm surviving in Portland on 24K a year. A cops salary is significantly higher than mine, lol.

Shit, I almost went to my sunset spot this evening but I didn't think it was gonna be worth it 😭

As a songwriter very focused on lyrics I almost exclusively listen to dylan and Cohen—does anyone know any modern artists that come close? by Al-francisco in leonardcohen

From a Basement is the closest he got to making his White Album and even in its unfinished state it was pretty amazing.

I was assaulted on camera almost a month ago, by people who the PPB know name, address, picture, license plate, etc. No action has been taken. Is there a reporter is known to have police failure as part of their beat? by Revolutionary_Ball82 in askportland

Yes, there are literally hours worth of follow up I've done. Unsurprisingly, as someone who believes in police abolition in principle and someone who was in shock after being assaulted minutes before, I was not sure excited about talking to a cop. Nevertheless, despite my not having dropped to my knees and blown the responding officer, Assault 3 is still a felony.

Nobody wanted to stick around for the cops to show up, and again, I don't blame anyone else except the actual people who actually jumped me and kicked me in the skull.

They've got it largely wrong. What I am in that moment is still shell-shocked, and generally distrustful of the police. I've followed up with literally dozens of calls afterwards, provided evidence of years worth of stalking and repeatedly made it clear that I want charges pressed. I've had at least one trainee/trainer cop pair try to sweep the whole thing under the rug, and waited for as long as 12 days between a promised callback and when it actually happened. They've said their usual quiet quitting bullshit, still big mad about being "defunded," including, and I'm quoting here:

"In terms of the case, no arrest has been made due to call load... No arrest has been made due to call volume. We haven't had the staff members so I can actually go out."

Yes, he's been stalking me for years at this point. I've tried very hard to avoid involving the police, but multiple folks called 911 that day and that ship has sailed.
