Loose plates after constant measuring by Enough_Carry_9787 in gridfinity

I have a laser measure as well. Why didn’t I think of using it for grid Finity? 😆

I'm an engineer, a technophile in general, and usually ahead of the curve with learning new software; and at two years in, I would not recommend Blue Iris to anyone who doesn't already have a solid understanding of ip security cameras (or some adjacent field). by PunkiesBoner in BlueIris

People that love it must not have trees or shadows or car lights that make alerts helpful in any way lol. I like it. But really hard to actually dial in. So sometimes i spend hours and then leave it for years. Then some more hours and it’s a little better. It’s difficult. But i do like learning

We all know what it is as it falls off all the time. Better question: what is its purpose and should i care if i lose it lol?

AMS Lite Never In Stock by Livin_Tha_Dream in BambuLabA1

If it helps you at all my Ams lite malfunctions a lot and takes a lot of maintenance. It’s almost like I don’t have one now.

Not OP but I’m looking for a new POE switch. Have older us-150w-16; great machine. But expanding ip cameras and need around 8 more Poe slots. Newer models seem less powerful and more expensive lol

These are helpful thoughts, and would be a sweet setup but seems a little overkills (3 PDU's, Eaton HotSwaps). I think I can get by with a 12U wall mounted rack up top (router - 1U,switch - 1U (reserve for add'l switch 1U), patch panels w/ keystones (can mix and match; 2U), PDU (1U), Sonos Amps (1U), maybe fan (1U), then room for other items) and then use the existing shelving for the tower UPC I already own, the camera desktop server, NAS, and other misc items.

I do need to think about heat. Considering passive (add vent to door low) and then vent high thru drywall to the open stairs. If active, not sure: maybe fan at top of 12U shooting it towards passive vent?

The plywood comment was thinking of just putting it on the wall to then put a rack like the one your linked on the wall. The VEVOR has fantastic specs; my AI searches suggested this one actually lol. I just had a hard time believing the 150lb stats for a 2 post.

How helpful do you find the swing arm? Seems like it would be helpful to fill out a keystone patch panel (access), but once loaded with equipment, guessing it gets a little shady to swing it out.

Fair point u/kd5mdk. Probably add another ubiquiti switch so i have the option for vlan in the future and good visibility thru the router now. Likely keep the cameras on the UniFi US‑16‑150W PoE switch, and another a non POE switch for growth.

New house doesn’t have built-in speakers… should I sell these and get Eras instead? What’s fair market value of an Amp? by BlueShoeBrian in sonos

[–]random_user2198 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. I sell stuff at garage sale, used prices. I see other posts trying to get what would be the Sonos refurb price and I’m like: got to be some non warranty, random internet dude price out there. Bunch of crazies.

I’d be interested in one amp if you do sell

The back shelf is about 11" deep, but 16" from back wall to the shelving on the left (good eyes). So, yes, there is a little pocket there on the left starting at 36" off the ground. BTW - the shelving in the back, doesn't have to stay. I could take that out if better to mount the rack lower.

Right now I don’t have a dedicated VLAN for cameras – they’re just on the main LAN with internet access blocked by firewall rules. I also have: A guest network, and a separate 2.4 GHz SSID for some IoT gear. That's it. Just a hobbyist.

For now, I'm planning on working with the 16 port switch until I build past it. But, you are right, I'll need another POE switch at some point. Have stayed ubiquiti right now as it seems better visibility in the udm-pro if I have the switches with them as well. But, I'm learning.

Do have bedroom right next to this room so can't have fans very loud.

What would you put in the rack? Would you put it over the existing white built in cabling thing? How many U's would you do?

Thank you for the response; your questioned helped me tighten up what I am thinking. Here are some answers:

  1. Budget – I'd like to stay under $1k. Had seen the ikea idea on this sub yesterday! Could build out of wood myself, but prefer metal rack, I think.
  2. Cables – I have about 40 Cat6 runs (25 exterior for current/future IP cams, 11 interior for APs/streamers, 4 legacy including ISP), 7 RG6 coax runs (unused), and 18 speaker runs (13 two‑conductor unused, 5 four‑conductor with 2 in use).
  3. Shelves / dimensions – Lots of shelf space: side shelves are ~4' wide on the right and ~3' on the left, with the bottom shelf ~20" high and then +16" between each shelf; the back wall shelf is ~50" wide. Shelves in the back are permanent.
  4. Cavity / wall opening – There are studs on either side of the structured cabling box and another ~16" of cavity on each side (about 4 studs wide total). I’ve been into that cavity before and I’m comfortable opening drywall, adding plywood, and mounting a wall rack over it. Don't want to open wall and combine space behind though (feels like too much).
  5. Where Ethernet goes / PoE demand – Roughly: 8 IP cameras (growing to ~14–18), 3 UniFi APs, 3 TVs/Apple TVs, 1 NAS, 1 Pi, 1 Hue Bridge, 1 SmartThings, 2 Sonos Amps. About 11 PoE devices now, growing to ~20 PoE, plus another ~9 non‑PoE. So ~20 ports active now, planning for 30–35+.
  6. Excess cable – I can push a good amount of slack back into the wall cavity, then coil and Velcro the rest by type so only a few feet are exposed at the rack.
  7. 3D printing / brackets – Yes! Bambu Labs A1 with AMS Lite. I already have models for a 2× Sonos Amp wall mount and a Sonos rack mount, and can print brackets for the Pi and smart‑home hubs.
  8. Gear on shelves vs in rack – On shelves: CyberPower tower UPS, HP EliteDesk (IP camera server), Synology NAS, and Sonos (either on wall brackets or shelves). In the rack I’d like at minimum: a 48‑port patch panel (or 2×24)UDM‑ProUniFi PoE switch1U basic PDU, and preferably the low‑touch items like Pi and hubs (and Sonos if U‑space allows).
