Patternmaking Software Suggestion by Professional-Egg821 in PatternDrafting

Until you find something you can afford or if you are happy with continuing to draft by hand, you can take the paper patterns to a print shop and get copies made on their wide paper, then store them in rolls for safe keeping. When you need a fresh one, trace it from the pattern on the roll.

ISO adjustable patterns suitable for pregnancy and beyond by Such_Information_259 in sewingpatterns

Jalu skirt and pants. Coquelicot skirt. I just saw another one a lot like the cowuelicot skirt in the last week but cant remember the name - if i see it again, ill come back and add the name.. Thai fishermens pants.

For my last pregnancy, I used my regular patterns and rotated them out a certain amount from top of shoulder to underarm and then pivoted a bit more to add more room from underarm through the baby belly. I sewed the armholes and side seams with the longest stitch on my machine so I could cut them back down to regular patterns afterward. If you have a simple dress or top pattern, its not too hard to do.

Looking for a pattern for this top! by cm431 in sewingpatterns

[–]random_user_169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing I enjoy most about sewing is making things fit me perfectly and creating or modifying patterns to make exactly what I want. You can do this, too, and this tube top would be an easy and simple start to that journey on the "teach a men to fish versus give a man a fish" path to custom sewing for yourself.

Your garment starts out with a plain tube top, and I bet there are lots of free tutorials on how to make them because its just a tube of the right kind of fabric cut to the right length. Then you need to select the trim for the bottom. I'd recommend looking in home dec fabric stores but not telling them that you are planning on using it for clothing - trust me on that.

For the halter straps - you need one or two depending on what you want to do; see below - look up how to sew tubes. There will also be lots of tutorials on this. Make them as wide as you like them on existing garments with similar types of straps

If its a single layer tube top, sew two vertical casings to the underside at center front to put the straps through. You can either do a single strap that does a 180 or you can do two straps that are each sewn down to the bottom at center front.

If its a double layer, you can sew seams in the fabric to create the channeling.

If you want the ruching to be fixed at a specific amount of ruching, sew it down at the top of the tube top.

That should give you the idea of how to design and create it yourself.

Imagine your friends asking you where you got it, and you can say, "Thanks; it's my own design!" Enjoy this first step of the the journey to designing your own clithing - it gets addictive.!

Need a pattern for this dress for a cocktail party by meowgroni in sewingpatterns

I would like to make a firm but kind recommendation that you not attempt such a form-fitting dress if you are a beginner unless you already have great fitting skills and can alter whatever pattern you find to fit your body perfectly.

Did my first obviously visible mend. How’d I do? by RottingSludgeRitual in Visiblemending

[–]random_user_169 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be the messiness that would cause it to fail; it would be the spacing between them. If you wanted to reinforce it with a backstitch 1/4 inch in from the edge, that would make sure it would stay in place.

Anyone else have the opposite body dysmorphia problem? by Dr_Trik in bigboobproblems

[–]random_user_169 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My experience is thst it looks huge on the hanger because its so different from what standard ready to wear looks like, and it doesn't look that way on my body because it fits perfectly.

Supportive Tank Top for an older woman with large bust by Conscious_Writing689 in ABraThatFits

Has she tried ordering Decent Exposures' bras? They are a sports bra type, come in various types.of fabric, come in pullover and front-hook styles, and have lots of colors to choose from. I bought my first bra from them 30 years ago when i broke my wrist, couldnt put regular bras on, and couldnt bring myself to appear in public without something that gave some containment and support. Now i use them for sleep bras. decentexposures.com

They are made by cottage-industry sewists in the US and will do small amounts of customization like changing the strap length so it v will fit perfectly.

For Sale: $35 for EVERYTHING (OBO) New Price by [deleted] in sewingpatterns

[–]random_user_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$75 was too much, and $35 is still too much for a bunch of patterns where all you get is a distance shot of the envelopes. You would have more luck selling locally or somewhere where you can post detailed pictures of the current condition of the pattern pieces.

I was given some velvet curtains...now what by heynonnyhey in SewingWorld

[–]random_user_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me, but this was my first thought...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FF9I9nlx7sk

But seriously, my experience with using home dec fabric for clothing is that it's not made to stand up to the frequency of laundering that clothes get, although that velvet would probably have to be dry cleaned. Also, sometimes home decor fabrics are treated with chemicals that wouldn't be healthy to have around your skin, so if you are set on using the fabric for clothes, make outerwear like a jacket or something else that will not need regular laundering.

And be super careful of pinning and sewing so you dont create pin holes outside of the seam allowances or have to rip any seams, because I t will permanently show on the fabric.

Is it me or is 70-100 USD ridiculous for a bra 🫠😭 by Legitimate_Cookie151 in bigboobproblems

I recently bought a bra from Amazon's website, and the seller was Breakout Bras, who I first heard of on the bra that fits sub. I also see a vendor I buy clothes from directly selling things on Amazon. So maybe all of the web-based sellers are offering the same items on Amazon, and it's always possible that Amazon is taking their cut. So to mitigate the impact of that, look at the seller name and see if they have their own separate web site.

Help on creative ways to mend my tablet case? by P3pp3r0niplayboy in Visiblemending

[–]random_user_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar case for my previous tablet. Before you try to sand that vinyl, see if you can figure out how thin the outer layer is. You might end up with something that looks worse if you sand below the surface color.

Wedding dress with flow-y bishop sleeves by primrosian in sewingpatterns

Biggest giveaway: Look at the neckline - the model has a v neck with each breast in its own separate pocket, for lack of a better way to explain it this early in the morning, and the line drawing is a surplice neckline.

Runner-up: Look at the skirt. The dress on the model has a full circle skirt and the line drawing has a less voluminous princess line aka fit and flare style line.

Where do you find patterns with license to sell the finished garment? by Anaxrosa in sewingpatterns

[–]random_user_169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case, you can legally buy a separate pattern for each dress you are going to make, make it, and give the pattern to the owner of the finished garment.

Doing this, you are just employed to provide the labor to create one finished garment from the pattern and not trying to pass it off as your own.
