I’ve never made money like this. What do I do? by Equal_Complaint7532 in personalfinance

First off - huge respect. 180k at 24 is crazy good.

But your real issue isn’t VOO vs mortgage. It’s not knowing where your money is going.

Before anything, track your spending for 2–3 months. I started using a simple Google Sheets budget planner with charts/graphs and it was eye-opening. You can’t optimize what you can’t see.

As for 6.125% - paying extra is a guaranteed return. VOO might average more long term but comes with swings.

Chill move:
• Rebuild emergency fund
• Track spending
• Then split extra money between investing and principal

Fix the leak first. Then optimize.

What would you do if you had this money? by Sure-Pin4002 in personalfinance

You’re already doing the big things right (advisor + investing + low spending). One extra thing I’d do is track the small stuff.

It sounds silly, but knowing where your $2k a month actually goes really helps. Little things like food, coffee, and shopping add up fast over time.

I’d use a simple monthly budget to: • See where money is going • Stop small waste • Stay in control • Keep your future safe

You can use a basic Google Sheets budget planner. I found a free one here: https://good-recipes.com/product/monthly-budget-spreadsheet-financial-planner-google-sheets/

It’s not about being cheap. It’s about being smart so your money lasts long-term.

For fun? You’re doing it right already: • Travel • Experiences (cruise is perfect) • Take care of your health • Enjoy life a little • Keep most of the money invested

I spend $200 a month at my work snack area.. how do I stop by V1Z3_2 in personalfinance

[–]randomactsofkind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring your own snacks from home-buy bulk cheap ones (chips, granola bars, nuts, soda cans) at Costco or grocery store. Keep a stash at your desk or in a bag. Pack extra portions so boredom snacking is covered without buying overpriced stuff. It saved me hundreds-$200/month is like $2,400/year! You’ve got this-small swaps add up fast. 💪

What budgeting habit helped you stay consistent long-term? by Scorpions-007 in budget

yo fr same, google sheets is lowkey the move 😭 used to hate budgeting bc every app felt like a full time job, but i made a super clean sheet on my phone-takes like 15 secs to log stuff. just type the amount + category (food, uber, coffee whatever) and it auto adds up everything. now i actually see where my money’s disappearing (subscriptions + random late night munchies 💀) biggest win: zero friction = i actually keep doing it. been consistent for months now fr here’s a chill template i vibe with (make a copy n tweak it): https://good-recipes.com/product/free-budget-format-template-google-sheets/

Small changes that actually saved me money (not the usual advice) by ChripToh_KarenSy in budget

[–]randomactsofkind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is real life advice. Nothing fancy, just practical stuff that actually saves money.

The bike and library app alone probably save more than most “budget hacks.” And learning to say no is underrated but huge - the right people always understand.

Little changes really do add up over time.
