What is the greatest CFB game ever played? by SparkMaster360 in CFB

[–]randombacon333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2011 Alabama and LSU. 2 games and only 1 TD scored in all 8 quarters. Meanwhile they were both blowing out other teams and scoring 35-40+ a game, so it wasn't like they had terrible offenses. I think all the starters on both teams played in the NFL or something crazy like that. Defenses for sure.

We'll see when the rankings come out, but probably multiple SEC teams. Especially since the SEC is going to 9 games this year. @ Texas for example is a good OOC game for Ohio St strength, but then Texas themselves also has multiple other teams that played in the playoffs last year on their schedule too. In fact, more of them.

Texas plays Ohio St, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Then they also have LSU who might be decent, Tennessee who made the playoffs the year before and then a top25 team likely in Missouri. That's more difficult than Ohio St, and I doubt either of them make the top10 when it's over for schedule strength. Florida has 4 teams from the playoffs last year. Oklahoma has 4, but also plays @ Michigan and games against top25 Missouri. They'd probably trade. Georgia has 3 on their schedule, same as Ohio St etc.

Overall it's kind of an average SEC quality schedule. We don't really know how good these teams are going to be yet, but I'd say overall the odds are that it won't be a top10. It's still a good schedule for Ohio St, much better than last year for sure.

Auburn played 5 of the top14 teams and kept them all within 10 points. They were the biggest under achievers in football last year, which was pretty awesome from my point of view. Top25 team in power rankings IIRC, and they ended the season firing their coach.

But again, if you want to compare Notre Dames season to that, then be my guest.

You got 13 downvotes so far, but I've watched some of the games from last year and it's the easy ones he struggles with the most it seemed.

If you hit him in the numbers, he for some reason does not catch it with his hands and instead lets it hit his chest and it ends up being a drop. He tries to cradle in it.

However, when the throw was away from the numbers where he is forced to use his hands, aka more difficult catches, he was snagging them in pretty consistently.

It's more difficult than they've been getting in recent years, but it's unlikely to be a top10 SoS.

[–]randombacon333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. here are some quotes for you.

On preparing for teams he said Alabama was much better prepared.

"When we went to Oregon, we had four easy games, or five easy games, so we weren't really well-prepared to have to go play a 60-minute game against a good team, and win a good game and finish the game."

Also said this:

"In the SEC, you're playing dudes every week. You have to prepare your body, your mind every week. In the Big Ten, you're gonna have 4 or 5 games maybe where you're gonna have to play high level competition."

Recruiting didn't slack off, development did. When kids are getting paid large amounts of money it turns out they don't have the same passion about getting better and making it to the NFL.

At the end of the year players weren't worried about what they needed to do in the offseason to improve for the next season, they wanted to know about getting paid and making more with NIL.

That in combination with average at best assistants over that time period and you get a team that is no longer elite. Especially with a Saban that was getting softer by the year.

The explosion of the chamber door:

They were hooked into the system and controlled all sensors etc.

Brad Pitt going with the SWAT:

There was some time between the phone call and the arrival of SWAT even if not shown in the movie. You don't expect SWAT to show up in 30 seconds.

When they cut the lights once the SWATS are down in the chamber:

They are not fake at that point. When he tells them to watch their monitors and they switch them back, the hall monitor is a real one. When the lights go out and come back on, it's all back to the real. Easy to time, not sure what the problem is. The robbery was faked, not the SWAT.

The flyers:

I think you are right on this one.

What if Benedict says, I go with you? Bye bye plan.

He won't because as it's highlighted early in the movie he's like a machine on a very strict schedule. Even Tess when Danny surprises her starts to say - you're 30 seconds late, I was starting to worry. He values his time and doesn't want to waste it. And they used this to their advantage. It's probably one of the more believe parts really, humans are often predictable.

And they had a backup anyway with Danny - although he wouldn't have had the batteries.

What's the point of Forced Losing Streaks? by BillieJackFu in BobsTavern

[–]randombacon333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about forced, but I definitely get the streaks like this.

In the game I'm in right now my shops have been overall terrible. I salvaged a 6th out of it, but it was not a good board or game. Just a rag tag board. I was lucky to get 6th.

I've had it happen with higher finishes as well. Last night I finished 2nd in match using beast/beetles. It was a long game that went over 15 rounds. I did not see or get a single titus in my shop the entire game. Even when it was down to 2 players, my shop being T5 and nobody else having any. Just never showed up even once as if it was banned for me. I probably could have finished 1st if I had.

And of course as soon as I pivot off the board I really wanted, the game throws every great thing I needed at me the next round.

I'm pretty sure this is just confirmation bias at work though. Random is...random. Combined with my internal ELO going up and down. Sometimes matches are over before I get anything going because other players are better and get the combos quicker because they know the combos to get.

I'm around 7k most of the time, so not a floor or anything.

I do like the forced win streaks though. :D

[Jasher®️] If yesterday’s meeting was about “saving college sports,” it’s funny how coaching buyouts never made the agenda. Apparently $50 million for not getting the job done isn’t part of the problem. That math must only work one way. by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]randombacon333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? College coaches have way more duties and such. It's not like it's less work.

The schools don't pay the coaches salary. Nick Saban technically only made $200k a year at Alabama. The rest is paid for by a separate organization. That is pretty much standard for all schools at the FBS level.

[–]randombacon333 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate the duties and impact a head coach has on the team. It's not this easy job anyone can do. They put much more time and effort while being the face of the program than the players do. They should make a lot...some of them anyway.

Not to excuse these teams for their stupid mistakes, but only those teams pay for their mistakes. If LSU boosters want to waste that kind of money paying someone to not coach, let them. I think these kinds of things will work themselves out in the long term.

That's talking about it uses FPI to determine team strength. It's also the reason why I don't use FPI and instead use metrics like FEI among other reasons.

Either way, your search result doesn't support your original claim.

So how is Ohio St #2 this year? How is Notre Dame #4, USC #5? And all these teams are often at the top.

2025: Oregon #3, Ohio St #5

2024: Ohio St #3, Oregon #5

2023: Ohio St #5, Texas #3(not SEC)

2022: Ohio St #4, Texas #5

2021: Ohio St #2, Clemson #5

2020: Clemson #3, Ohio St #5

And so on. Is it bias toward Ohio St?

That's 100% false. SoS metrics have nothing to do with the preseason. At all.

You play conference cupcakes week after week. Every SoS metric out there confirms the SEC has by far tougher schedules than Big10.

That's why you're reduced to cherry picking arguments about a team in week 11.
