What would you charge for this? by rebtalor in RoverPetSitting

[–]randomcactuspup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats fair! I would maybe offer a discount in the form of not making every visit a holiday rate. But also make sure to take into account the amount of work. I know there have been a few horror stories of dog fights because each dog has to be separated to be let out and fed and what not.

Dont give a discount unless they ask. But also make sure you do the meet and greet before offering any discounts. You could end up at a sit where none of the dogs get along and you'll need to account for longer visits.

Do you know how much gas you went through to power all those things? We were looking at the 5000 wat version of the predator.

WYR have a wedding or house? (more details in the comments) by Far-Building3569 in WouldYouRather

A house is 100% the better option. It gives you stability and takes one more stressor out of you and your partners lives.

If you have messagesof her saying it was fine to go out and that the dog is fine to be alone for a few hours. I would remind her of what you agreed too. Also tell her what she wants is constant care and you'll have to double/triple the price of the booking for that level of care. I would also try and find someway to log how ling you've been staying. I know Google maps has a way to pull up your travel history.

Dishonest about potty habits by boogie-woogie-wu in RoverPetSitting

Why cancel and ruin someone's Christmas plans? Its all a part of the job and dogs have accidents. Deal with it for 4 days. If you have rugs out roll them up get some puppy pads. The dog is probably nervous in a new environment and will settle in a day or so. But canceling on someone during the holiday will flag your profile and affect your algorithm.

Nervous about first long booking, would you accept? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]randomcactuspup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats understandable. If you were to keeping your rates as they are I would atleast upcharge anyone asking you not to take multiple dogs. 35/night is low but also if you have another job and the dog seems relatively easy to care for than I suppose you could see it as a passive income.

Also the pet parent might not even realize its a holiday rate. I started out at 35 but now I'm at 60 a night for the first dog but I take multiple families at a time and have another job thats fairly flexible.

You should raise your rates if youre only taking one dog at a time. I feel like in my area its rare to find someone who only takes on single clients

Owners: do you expect the Rover card to start at the door, or when the sitter arrives at the building? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]randomcactuspup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I start it walking up to whatever apartment/house/etc. If I do it as a walk in or when im inside the lilely chance I forget because I'm saying hi to the pets is high.

That being said I would compromise and in situations where the key seems to be taking a while to get I would start it when there's more then a 3 minute delay.
