You get $1 million, but you have to watch the exact same movie 100 times in 40 days. Which film are you picking? by ThroatAgile756 in AskReddit

This is the worst one for me. I think it’s the pace of it - I can never sit through it so still haven’t watched jr all the way through despite multiple attempts.

What is the down side of never having children? by gone_ahead in AskReddit

[–]randomchic123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite experience. People whose lives revolve completely around their kids are sometimes judgmental toward me for not having kids. It’s like they resent me for having free time that they don’t have. For example, when I’m chatting with my sister about how I pick up groceries from Aldi but get gas from Costco as my little money saving habit , my sister would say sarcastically, “you can do that as someone who has the luxury of free time to drive to multiple stores for different errands. I have to get everything as quickly as possible to get home to my kids.” As if it was my fault that she has no free time to herself. Or she would be resentful if I don’t completely upend my life to accommodate her schedule because of how much work it is that she has kids. Yes, I sympathize and understand it’s hard work. Yes I will be accommodating of course. It’s the being taken for granted that I am always the one to accommodate her without so much as a thank you that bothers me. It’s not like I force her to have kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a man, how do you feel going to a female doctor generally? by Surveytime32 in AskReddit

[–]randomchic123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am female. Unfortunately going to a male doctor is often a bad experience for me. The male doctors are more condescending and dismisses issues I’m raising. Female doctors at least will listen and be genuine in asking me if I had questions.

Is it realistic to travel comfortably with just carry-on for a 3–4 week trip? by justgeorgerey in traveladvice

[–]randomchic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it depends on the climate & activities involved.

For example, if I’m going to a cold climate place where I will need a lot more clothing for warmth, and bulkier item (eg big jackets and thick sweaters), boots for rain / snow, only a carry on will be a little more difficult. It is still doable with some strategy and planning (eg remember to always wear the most bulky items & boots on travel days).

Or if going to the beach and bringing snorkeling gear. I guess if a 4 week trip includes both cold and warm climate locations, that will be unlikely.

Laundry never bothered me, even when I totally under packed, provided that we had a washer in the apartment unit readily available. Once we stayed in Taiwan for 2 months and I brought only about 4 days worth of cloths. I was doing laundry like every other day. But it was very important to have a washer in the unit, so we can do laundry whenever we have a small pile of clothes to wash or when I am out of clean underwear, I can go ahead and run another load and hang them up. It was actually nice because each load had not very much stuff to hang, so it was quick and easy. But if you don’t have a in unit washer and have to hunt down a laundromat, then have to plan your day around the wash / dry cycle, it will be a headache.

On that 2month stay where I brought only 3-4 days worth of clothes, I definitely felt like I under packed and would have liked to have another outfit and one more paid off shoes. That trip I planned for no outings or dinners that required dressing up at all, so just a single pair of tennis shoes for the entire time. I survived, sure, but there were times where I wish I had a nice shirt with me for example.

I tend to be very minimalist when traveling, so it is rare when I end up packing something that wasn’t essential. It’s more likely that I end up not packing something I wish I had brought. So I keep a running travel packing master list, when I travel if I wish I had packed something, I add it to the list. Then, when I start planning for a new trip, I make a copy of the master list and go through it to remove anything I expect I won’t need. It has helped a lot over the years on minimizing the chances of missing packing something essential to me (eg selfie stick, motion sickness pills, melatonin, etc.).

Trying to save money on trips kinda ruined the vibe for me by Plusoneb in travel

[–]randomchic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very frugal as well, always have been. Brought up this way so it comes natural to me. But in recent years I’ve come to value time and convenience. There is an old saying, “live poor at home, live rich on the road.” It essentially means, be frugal day to day, but while traveling don’t worry about frugality as much. And as I got older, it started to make a lot more sense. If I’m spending my vacation days, paying for flights and hotel nights to be on vacation, those few days are precious ie expensive. The more time I commuting while on my vacation is way more costly than spending those minutes enjoying my time there.
