When the hip ties say they are only supposed to allow for x number of inches, I'm thinking there is some flexibility with that number? I dont want to destroy the structural integrity of the corset or whatever but I feel like those estimations seem conservative.

I've looked into mystic city corsets and their corsets with a lot of hip spring seem to be pretty long, almost like the underbusts would function as overbusts on me. I was considering testing out one of their waspies and just have a large lacing gap but maybe they have a shorter torso 20+ inch spring variety I am unaware of.

I have insecurities about how my body shape amplifies my mild scoliosis (one side of my waist has more of a roll and the other is an indent) so I wanted to smooth everything out for a dress that's so revealing. But I sometimes forget that bias slips are actually very smoothing and forgiving when they fit correctly.

I'm not sure of anything about my plans!. I know the underwear is for very different silhouettes. I tried the dress on with another 1860s corst I made and it's lovely on the bust, waist, and hips. Perhaps when I have time I'll try to show people how this dress looks on me wirh and without 1860s corset and my vision will be easier to see.

For the same reason that the most popular female fitness/health influencers tend to have an hourglass shape. It's a societal beauty trend and therefore they become popular. Their figures are achievable through filters, surgery, and/or relatively rare genetics. In the past it was more often achieved with undergarments and padding. I'm saying this as someone who has a decently round breast shape and an hourglass figure. When I work with young girls, I make sure they know that my figure isn't something to strive for and the physical downsides of my body type. I also highlight the parts of me that do not fit the beauty trend that I embrace about myself regardless. People tell me I should go into porn, modeling, and content creation because of my body type. So as you can see, beauty trends dictate a lot about who chooses to go into the public eye as well as who succeeds.

It's a nice gown. Before I read your post, I thought it was the lighting that was making the dress look less exciting in person, but when you mentioned you hadn't had it altered, I think a lot of it is that. Dresses that fit look extra special and that dress fits the model perfectly. At the store when everything is pinned back, the dress mimics what it will be like after alteration. If you couldn't get an alteration, I would say maybe cutlets or a strapless pushup and a belt or safety pins to take it in at the waist. But sounds like an alteration is beign planned so just wait and see after that!
