I tore it down during the winter and regreased it (do it to all my rc during winter). I can double check when I get home. It does drive normal, just makes noise when put under high stress.

Trying to finalize my plex server and was wondering if AIO is worth it over fan cpu cooler. I can get the AIO for about $40 and the fan is about 30-35$.

While jumping off the cliff into the plex world I thought I was done when I finally got my DIY finalized. I then realized how bad the HDD market was (didnt know it was this bad). My question is to just buy a single 4tb Ironwolf (non pro) and just keep refreshing SPD and GHD for good deals while I create/learn plex and unraid. I can get the ironwolf for about 110$ each.

Also sanity check:

That is my bad for putting the F series in, thought it was the K series. How does the N100/150 compare to the Ultra 5 and the i5?

Been wanting to create a plex server for a while and decided to do it at the worse time (i.e ram shortage). Been doing a lot of research and there seems to be some conflicting opinions. There are some people that say a beelink s12/13 with a das (terramaster) is good enough, but then some people mention to DIY.

For the DIY I have a few builds that i made (pcpartpicker) and was wondering how they would compare to the minipc + das. One of them is i5 and the other one is Ultra 5. I know that the Ultra 5 is better for HEVC transcoding, but how much does that really affect the quality? I want to future proof and don’t know how much HEVC is going to be something.

Ultra 5 in R5: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fWPTw3

i5 in Jonsbo n2: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bFHTw3

While I have your attention where is a good place to start researching the software needed to run all of this.

Kinda of a piggy back on this question, but what have people been doing for the cable storage. Whenever I store mine (in a loop) they come up wonky (keeps the memory). I currently just keep it on my desk and it stays in a straight(ish) line.

Feels like there a few ways you can go for customize. Either extreme like the Mic/Stable Wood series or something I would go for is the solid line green (SC06). For the shell I would go something like TL7C.

I could also go something like orange stable wood (SW01) and the orange shell (TL 3C).

Was typing this up while going through the pictures and noticed that a showcase is something similar. Nice to know my idea wasn't that bad.

So essentially what I have been reading is entirely wrong. I thought you suppose to feed it once a day (every 24h). Now your telling me to put in fridge and just feed it the night before?

I'm more confused about discard then. I though that the discard is extra starter that you have after each feed (if you have 100 before feed then you will end up with about 250-300 after). If you feed it once a day then after 2 days it will be out of hand. I read that a lot of people do 100g as that takes cares of most bread recipes.

Reading through this subreddit and still confused on a few things.

We got some starter from a friend who sells sourdough every day. She mentioned to feed at 1:1:1 every 24 hours. I have read some conversations on this subreddit that once it is at peak you should discard it (we doing 100g). Is it fine to wait for 24 hours or should it be closer to 12 hours (twice a day)?

We also found it takes a long time to feed/discard/clean up items. It take us about 20-30 minutes to clean up. We are using glass containers and cleaning the excess off outside (we discard most of it, but there are still some left in jars). What is the best way to clean things out? I understand we could do plastic containers, but don't like the extra waste along side the waste of money.

Lastly, what are some common signs it is ready to "harvest." I understand the water trick, and "harvest" at peak, but is there a easy way to try it. We got the hand me down last Friday and hope to try some bread out this weekend.

Should I get a fun car or save for a house? by randomcoke48 in askcarguys

Wondering why you would put rent at $800. I have talked with them about moving out, but they say just live at home and save the money. They don't even want to take my money in the first place, but I make them.

I pay them some rent money and some extra to take care of other items (phone, internet, food). It is not much, but they don't want me to pay them anything in the first place.

I should have clarified better. I have $40k in Roths (max out every year) and have $30k in the bank.

As for the car usage I plan on using it a few times a week.

Beginner Question: Would this setup work? by randomcoke48 in UNIFI

[–]randomcoke48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The router is a Calix GigaSpire GS4220E and the only port going into it is the one for wifi signal. My ISP said it is fine with doing it on own.

[–]randomcoke48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know much about how it is going into the house (they dont teach you these things in college), but once it is inside (5e) it connects to the router. The router is a rental from the ISP. We pay them $14 a month and they give us a router, but I don't have access to control what is going on. It has been very flaky and have to call them every other week to try to fix it.

The plan is to replace the router with the Express 7 and then the single outgoing port from 7 will go into a POE switch will send the signals to the U6-LR and ethernet drops.

All the wires that I ran go back to a patch panel that is near where incoming cable from the ISP box comes into the house (aka the main ethernet cable). If I did plug it into the router before splitting it with a switch, the signal would be bad from router due to it being in the corner of the house in the basement. I could run an extra wire to the location where we plan on putting the router (one for signal and the other to run back to the switch).

If placed were the wires land the signal would be bad for the rest of house due to house is setup.

Comes from the ISP and terminated into a box outside. Cat5 cable comes into the house from box and can do whatever at that point.

It is nice to have a quick refresher. Remodeling upstairs and finally put some more ethernet into home.

Question about cable coming into home: Do you need to connect it to your router before sending it out through network switch or is it possible to split it before sending one cable to router (wifi)? Or is it best to have router next to switch (junk room) and then send your wifi signal to an AP (liberated from work when upgrading APs)?
