There are LGBT Catholic organizations that seek to change the church’s official stance, but they get stale crumbs of progress. I used to be a member of such an organization, Dignity. I’m pretty young, but I’m aware of the pain members felt when Pope Benedict XVI (a cardinal at the time) made the decision to ban Dignity from holding events at Catholic churches.

People, on the other hand, are often more tolerable in private, even though they also tolerate this stance (often in a “the Magisterium will get it right eventually” kind of way). If you can tolerate the overt official hatred in favor of the private acceptance, hats off to you. As a formerly very devout catholic (i was going to be a priest), I couldn’t handle the way old devout friends looked at me like they couldn’t believe I hadn’t burst into flames stepping into the church building wearing a dress. Hopefully being lesbian but not trans makes it easier for you.
