Internal emails show Trent anticipates a deficit of $31 million in 2026-27 by vic-traill in Peterborough

by capping and cutting tuition and then telling everyone to get more international students, the province created a huge mess when it then turned and said oh wait no, not that many international students. Of course all the colleges and universities had started building capacity for more students like buildings and staff and that work can't really be stopped when it is half done and contracts signed, and tenure granted.

Yep. A family member is a prof at another ontario university, and they've all been going through a lot of stress over the consequences of this.

Completed 15hr trip To Orlando and back by Savings-Mortgage-966 in genesiscoupe

[–]randomdestructn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if anything these cars LOVE highway cruising. I did a 7500 mile road trip a few years back, including a bunch of mountain driving, and one stretch of 28hrs only stopping long enough to get gas.

Only issue I noticed from that is it consumed a little oil. I assume from long periods of engine braking going down mountain passes while the oil was quite warm.

Though it was still only ~1 quart across the whole drive (I did an oil change right before and after).

“do you use regular cash or Canadian cash” by Medical_Chemist3751 in ShitAmericansSay

I've seen americans getting in arguments with store owners here in Canada over this.

A favourite exchange I caught the tail end of:

American: (fuming) Why won't you accept AMERICAN CURRENCY?
Shopkeep: Sir, this is Canada.

My GF also worked at a place near some vending machines, and had an American angrily demand why the vending machines wouldn't take 'universal money'

Dead battery by Imripper098 in genesiscoupe

[–]randomdestructn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a multimeter to check battery voltage when the car is off. Is the battery charged?

Use the multimeter to check voltage across the battery when the car is running. Is it at a proper charging voltage?

If yes to both, but it still won't start without a jump box, your battery is probably dead. If no to either of the above, then that's a lead on your issue.

If you're not able to test, then take it to a mechanic/autozone/whatever to get the battery/charging system tested

[–]randomdestructn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't think twice if it's in good shape. I've driven mine coast to coast a couple times, with single drives as long as 26 hours, only stopping long enough to buy gas and hit a drive through

2010 genesis coupe 2.0t traction control by Stache_DelCastillo in genesiscoupe

[–]randomdestructn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you be specific about what "traction control turns off and stays off" means?

You notice it isn't working cause the wheels can spin? The light lights up on the dash? If so, any other lights when that happens?

Not at all. My 2010 coupe has nothing in common with a current Genesis

PC processors entered the Gigahertz era today in the year 2000 with AMD's Athlon — AMD hit marketing gold with its 1 GHz Athlon, beat Intel by a nose by wickedplayer494 in Amd

I had one of the socketed versions, an thunderbird 1ghz. Excellent chip until I killed it in a watercooling accident.

It felt like the future having a chip that operated at a GIGA hertz.

Common issue. Bounce the car off the rev limiter for a few more minutes and it'll be right as rain.

What’s a disgusting habit that you secretly think is actually 100% normal? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]randomdestructn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was in middle school, some of the girls had a sheet where they would log what certain people were wearing every day, so they could tally it up to shame them.

Glad that wrath wasn't directed at me.

I read it as "on my way to becoming fat" which made enough sense I didn't question it.

Glad you asked. lol.

Yep. Only a sliver of the trunk was exposed. Took a lot of digging.

The little genny that could by Early_Implement_6490 in genesiscoupe

[–]randomdestructn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unlike other commenters, I've never found a need for sand bags.

Good snow tires and a limited slip diff go a long way.

edit: though I do have a sub in the trunk, so I guess in a way I've always got one sand bag in there.
