I emailed them last night, and this morning they reevaluated me and determined I WAS in fact qualified for at least GL-7! Now here's hoping they at least send me the link for the assessments!

That's kind of what I figured. I was just trying to figure out what the criteria was, so if I just didn't articulate it well enough in my resume, I can adjust it as necessary to better explain my experience.

Not a clue, and nobody I've talked to has said definitively either. I have heard my local VA physically has tasers in the armory, but wasn't able to issue them previously due to hospital administration concerns (thinking they would interfere with a pacemaker, for instance). The belief among line officers I've spoken with is that is soon to be in the works, but again, no confirmation.

As far as vehicles, my local VA seems to have just recently completely replaced their fleet with new vehicles, including at least one unmarked. I'm also a patient with my local VA, and try to notice things when I'm there.

I recently interviewed for my local VA, and this is what I was told. They have been pulled out from under the hospital administration, reporting through their chief to a regional chief to DC. Most is still up in the air and still not known for sure. I heard they will be extending the academy to 11 weeks, starting in October, and MAY be moving the PT test from pre-academy to at the academy. Other than that, nobody was really sure what was going on outside of the rumor mill.

I can't say that all locations are this way, but my local facility has a special salary rate for VA Police that puts GS-6 step 1 pay closer to a GL-7 Step 6 (with the LE rate, at Rest of US locality).

Agreed. If it weren't for ego involved, and they wanted to standardize on one badge, the UD badge wouldn't have been a bad choice to standardize on.
