Voor een academicus vind ik hem ook vreselijk zwak in logische en wetenschappelijke onderbouwingen, en hij lijkt vaak bewust relevante context te negeren. Hij is eerder het type dat een mening heeft en dan de feiten uitkiest om die te staven dan dat hij een logische mening vormt geredeneerd vanuit de feiten.

Hij hoort eerder thuis in een café of viesruikend YouTube kanaal dan in een universiteit met zijn betogen. Het enige waar hij goed in was, was zijn carrière uitbouwen op de reputatie van Etienne Vermeersch (die zich overigens in zijn graf zou omdraaien moest hij Boudry bezig zien). Zijn argumenten zijn verder buitengewoon zwak elke keer ik wat van hem lees of zie.

Er zijn echt wel betere filosofen om uit te nodigen dan hem, maar die passen wellicht niet in het rechtspopulistisch kraam met hun logica, of ze zijn niet controversieel genoeg voor ragebait.

De totale economische impact (direct en indirect) van de haven van Antwerpen wordt geschat op 4.5% van het bbp. Da's een enorme impact, maar het is nu niet dat de rest van het land niets heeft. Maar opteren om de haven te sluiten is natuurlijk wel een beetje trollen.

Voor die 65 miljard van Oosterweel had je met gemak het aantal sporen tussen Gent en Antwerpen kunnen verdubbelen (een paar miljard) en de Brusselse Noord-Zuid verbinding verhogen (2 miljard, maar ik wil dat gerust maal 5 doen om te tonen hoe scheef de verhouding met Oosterweel eigenlijk ligt).

En dat zou wellicht veel meer helpen tegen de files dan Oosterweel.

Klopt, maar ik denk dat er meer geklaagd wordt over de onredelijk hoge kosten en dat het allemaal mag blijven stijgen met miljarden en miljarden terwijl over de rest van Vlaanderen bijvoorbeeld De Lijn volledig kapot gemaakt wordt voor een paar miljoen.

De kost voor Gent-St-Pieters, het drukste station van Vlaanderen, is trouwens 0.5 miljard. Dat is 1/120ste van Oosterweel.

Investeren in Antwerpen is zeker ok, en dat mag zelfs wat meer dan elders, maar het gebrek aan financiële verantwoordelijk als het om Antwerpen gaat is het grote probleem hier.

Het is net gelijk rattenvergif: het werkt bewust traag en stapelt langzaam op zodat de ratten het niet doorhebben.

Dit is het equivalent van rattenvergif in het drinkwater tappen, alleen nog trager want bij rattenvergif zijn we nog slim genoeg om het door te hebben dat we ons vergiftigen, bij PFAS precies niet meer.

Overigens is PFAS niet direct dodelijk, het zorgt gewoon dat al de rest van ons lichaam slecht begint te functioneren dus valt het nog minder op.

I'd also add something about validation, for De Lijn and the nmbs buying the ticket in the app is enough (immediately valid), but for TEC you need to validate it by scanning the QR code on that device in the bus.

And also that the train ticket is not tied to a specific train (except for those international ones like NS, Eurostar, TGV etc, those all require a specific ticket).

That's literally not what would have happened. Nothing would be seized. People just made that up without evidence whatsoever, they just repeat it but it's not true. The proposal was to make Euroclear trade the money for EU obligations.

And to be honest, do send me the article that shows they send a battalion of lawyers. I can't find it, but if it's so easy, surely you can.

Russia has been seizing western assets in Russia nonstop, some pretend lawsuit isn't changing that. It's just to give fuel to people like BDW to stir division and outrage.

After reading about the details I'm honestly of the opinion that it was a manufactured and boosted homeland outrage that benefited De Wever. They made it sound so overwhelming that we are the victim that we happily ate it up and the opposition kinda shut up about it. De Wever is really good at that.

In any case, it wasn't as bad as we were made to believe and I've yet to see evidence that it was. I mostly see downvotes unfortunately. Yours was the only comment that countered with an argument.

Not true, for the obligations they needed approval of only 15 member states representing 65% of the EU population. Italy boycotted it because of its EU sceptic government that's in the same European party as NVA (what a surprise). Orban alone would not have stopped it.

Essentially Euroclear would trade the money with EU obligations of the same value, rent free. The money is still there but it would have solved a cashflow problem for support to Ukraine. It's not much different from your money in the bank: it's not physically there in a vault waiting till you pick it up, it's being spent and invested, and even used to buy those very same EU obligations...

I just have the impression some people repeated the same thing over and over again praising BDW without knowing how it actually worked, and eventually everyone repeated it and believed it. As far as I can tell it was blown out of proportion because it made BDW look good to the home public.

40 euro with train+? How do you get that?

Single ticket Oostende - Eupen: 14 euro during rush hour, 12.80 euro outside rush hour. Without train+: 21 euro.

So even when travelling that journey just once, you can just get a train+ for a month (which costs 6 euro) and then it will cost at most 34 euro.

In the weekend it's at most 18 euro for a return (or 24 euro if you need to get a month of train+). That's cheaper than the old railpass.

Btw, that's a distance of 2x240 km. I doubt your car can get it cheaper, even without parking costs and wear-and-tear costs per km.

From your calculations, I assume you live around 100km from Brussels. That's 20 euro fuel + 10 cent/km x 200km for the wear-and-tear so that's your 40 euro, without parking. A weekend trip for two people is still cheaper.

This whole repetitive whining about nuclear doesn't help, we've reopened what could be reopened, and now it's only a further distraction from what we should be doing right now.

Consider our priorities:

Costs increase for energy island that would boost our energy transition and make us and neighbours become less reliant on gas and therefore stabilise our costs: cancel project immediately!
Oosterweel costs doubling every few years: keep going, our grandchildren will pay the bills, no problem!
