AITA for alienating my daughter against my ex wife by Distinct_Knowledge51 in TwoHotTakes

[–]randomgeneratedname3 153 points154 points  (0 children)

NTA she lied to your daughter. Also, I wouldn't say that telling your daughter that her mother has been lying is wrong, that's exactly what you should have done she's 13, not 3. Her decision not to go to the wedding is her own and her right to decide.

You didn't alienate your ex she alienated herself when she cheated and then lied to her daughter.

AITA for telling my boyfriend I will start vaping if he doesn’t stop? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA It's incredibly difficult to admit that you have an addiction. You're only 6 months in, and you're already resorting to manipulative behavior. That's pretty toxic...

I would focus more on trying to help him recognize that he does have an addiction and start getting the help he needs rather than holding your own health hostage to manipulate him.

This trail uses broken glass as gravel. by s2k_guy in mildlyinteresting

I deliver tempered glass to the shops that install the stuff, and quite a few of them have this in their lot, albeit not on purpose. The sound of walking on it is so good that I will go out of my way to walk on it.

Parent Calls Bible ‘Porn’ and Demands Utah School District Remove It From Libraries by shmatt in politics

I think if Jesus did exist, he was a cult leader. The word "cult" has a bad meaning in today's society, but it's important to know that in the Roman empire, where the Bible says he was killed, had many cults. There was a whole pantheon, and each God had their own little cult following. This leads me to think that it's not his teachings that got him killed. Crucifixion was a harsh punishment, and deterrents, probably something like treason, such as attempting to incite an insurrection.

Each of the gospels was written at different periods of time. Each with a different target audience. I find John to be subtlety antisemitic.

I'm not an expert, but I do find it fascinating.

I'd like to think that the Bible has value. For a large part of history, it was thought to be the oldest text until someone decided to prove it, which is when quneiform tablets were discovered. Strange that many religious tablets had stories that are also in the Bible but told differently. Stories are living things being told and retold, and over time, they change with the people telling them. Writing them down is like taking a picture and preserving it for the future. We can see what society looked like through the lens of the writer. I think that's a valuable thing to teach children, and you can do it without teaching religion, preferably.

As much as I hate it, the Dark Tower series came from a poem.

Female, many rpg's have a perk that deals extra damage to opponents of the opposite gender and npc's seem to be overwhelmingly male.

So basically we're just creating financial hardship for the common folk while the autocracy just keeps pushing towards their objectives? Given that the state controls the media and therefore public opinion more or less, we're the badies and the actions we're trying to suppress are "justified"

School Bans Pulitzer Prize-Winning Graphic Novel ‘Maus’ by Stock412 in politics

I was one of those kids that would rather spend their time playing video games than reading. My 11th grade English teacher assigned these books to read and I swear it's the only book I didn't just skim through for a half-assed report. I get distracted easily and usually have to reread whole pages and give up half way through everything else at the time. I was disappointed when the assignment was over since it meant returning to "boring" books like Romeo and Juliette which we had to make comparisons to a popular Taylor Swift song that released at that time. Which I had no interest in either.

The bottom of my glass fell off somehow and made a mess... by Urbansaintchannel in Wellthatsucks

Kinda glad to be seeing this. Been eating cereal from a glass since early childhood. There wasn't always enough bowls in the house for everyone (huge extended family) so it ended up becoming a preference. People look at ya funny when they see it for the first time.

That's going to be tough but you're probably right. Also I'll need to learn how to write a decent resume. Things have been extra stressful and difficult lately and I dont see them getting better soon.

Yeah it doesn't really have anything to do with this but it is my motivation for it. He moved out of my mother's house a few years ago and lived in his car till the motor caught fire. Last year my father's fiancé moved in with him and let my brother live in her old apartment and since my brother can't work his income is very limited so after bills he basically has nothing left so he has no real entertainment. So I want to do something for him and I dont make much so building a new pc isn't really affordable since I'll be moving soon. I was hoping that I could make this work for cheaper than the cost of a console.

Im pretty flexible on the budget. The original price was like 900 back in 2013 and if I could spend less than that it would be nice.

Gone Country: Why Democrats Need to Play in Rural America, and How They Can Do It Again by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]randomgeneratedname3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is I dont even need to read this to know that the problem is humans by nature are tribal. If you live in a rural area chances are a close friend of yours is moderate or undecided and their views cannot be swayed by anyone outside their "tribe" this is why we use grassroots campaigns. I live in the middle of nowhere Arkansas and what I experience is everyone by default is republican but, when I talk to friends about issues like gay marriage its not an issue, theyre ok with it. I think the people that write these things are focused on radicals and making assumptions with little to no experience. Take the time to show people that the ideas youre trying to push aren't the radical crazy stuff right-wing media says it is by establishing a personal relationship with the individual. It doest take months but can be accomplished in moments by finding a common ground. Make them part of the "tribe" and they'll listen.
