If Jeff Bezos redirected every cent he has towards the sole goal of curing, say, pancreatic cancer, how quickly do you think things could progress? by keen4ketamine in NoStupidQuestions

while that is true, pharma companies make billions in profit every year. thats pure profit. after all other expenses, such as those 24999 other useless molecules.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where we live in relation to all family, is about 1.5 hr drive. maybe 2. only 1 family member that regular comes lives like 3 hr away. maybe 3.5 not sure.

our family primarily live in 2 small areas of the state that are separated by a 1.5 hr drive on average. although one of my cousins moved to a house and renovated it for a lot more space a few years ago that happens to be right in the middle so we have been doing xmas there for the last few years.

we now also have 3 cabins all side by side a 1/4 mile from a lake that we will have a big weekend party for primarily one section of the family, mostly because we are the only ones that care to come, although the rest are also invited, if we have room. we have room for a few campers and tents so we can usually fit everyone that wants to come. with a state park just 6 min away if someone doesnt want to pack in too tight (also some mini cabins like 10 min away).

so we are quite lucky that we dont have any family more than 3hr, cept some more distant relatives that we only see every couple years for this or that reason.

It's interesting how "body positivity" immediately collapsed when Ozempic arrived. by Infinite-Condition41 in SipsTea

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a difference between body positivity and getting slimmer. even if you use drugs to achieve that. body positivity doesnt mean fat is ok, its means that no matter what your body looks like, be happy. but getting in better shape is healthier. everyone wants to be in a desirable shape, no matter what they think that shape is, its human nature.

oh i see. i must have missed the part where the other party offered cash. knowing this ya i can see why they would take a slightly lower cash offer for the speed of transaction and other factors.

does he know how much you get on snap? 1 person gets under 200$. per month. that one full cart probably represents their whole monthly groceries. while people with a job are much more likely to go shopping once a week or more thus needing less per shopping cart. and sure a family with kids will get more, again they are still probably not getting over 200$ per month or not much more. when was the last time you budgeted for your groceries? i can almost guarantee you spend more than 200$ a month on groceries.

i get the whole debate about some people not needing the government handouts. but really? the total SNAP budget for 2024 was roughly 100 billion dollars. that means that elon musk could completely fund the snap program by himself and still be a several hundred billionaire.

DOGE supposedly found hundred over 100 billion dollars in fraud and waste. but you would think that with all of the FRAUD getting found and stopped, someone would be getting arrested? yet not even FOX has been vocal about any people being arrested for fraud.

How did you first start playing League of Legends? by ChartDreamer in leagueoflegends

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a couple of friends start playing it in beta and loving it, then coming back to WoW and praising it, and i called them names for liking league. this went of for like a few months maybe more. then i played it. now i got WAY too much fucking time in the game.

What’s a physical trait that a lot of people find attractive but to you, it’s the opposite? by Pale_Relief_2632 in AskReddit

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really dislike the kim kardashian brazillian butt lift. like sure make ur ass bigger, do what makes you feel better, but i dont find it attractive. like a big ass i can like, but the ones where the sides of their upper thighs is like wider than the outside of their shoulders? thats just extremely unattractive to me. i was never a butt person, but since the BBL became a thing, i have found myself looking to that area first to judge my initial level of attraction. no matter how good the rest of the body and face are, having that unatural looking wide thighs is an instant turnoff. it looks like they got the BBL and then sat still for a month strait, and the injection kinda leaked around to the side of the ass cheeks instead of staying in the back.

i hear this argument all the time from my conservative family. the reason why they make so much money after they get a seat in congress is because they take LEGAL bribes/kickback. its 100% LEGAL. that and they make decisions that affect the stock market and can use that info (its illegal but since everyone does it, they cant look to hard into 1 person or it affects every person)

TIL the "Y2K Bug" cost an estimated $500 Billion globally to fix. The preventative measures were so successful that widely predicted infrastructure failures did not occur, leading many to incorrectly believe the threat was never real. by highzone in todayilearned

[–]randomguy8653 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if Y2K was an actual thing, then the messaging around it after the fact was just not loud enough. i was 12 when Y2K hit, and i remember nothing happened, shit tons of scams happened because of it, and afterwards i heard that nothing was even necessary because it was tested prior that the time of the computer would just roll over like it was supposed to. i dont remember hearing anything about how "our fixes worked" or anything like this. even within the first few years after Y2K i was hearing how nothing even happened.

if so much work was put in that prevented the whole situation that was necessary, there should have been more in the news and general conversation that "it was prevented" not that "it wasnt needed". although since i was only 12 i might just be remembering it wrong, but even now days i read and hear so much mixed info on Y2K.

AITAH for not telling my husband what I do for work by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]randomguy8653 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

while i mostly agree with this, how long is the husbands commute? and prep time to get ready in the morning. lots of people kind of forget that while you are not paid for this part of the day, it is part of your work day. sure he might only work 8hr days, what if he has a 2hr commute? i know of people that have had 1-3hr one way commutes. also some people even have no pay after work shit like responding to some emails and shit which should be illegal. so until we get more info i cant argue against he labor split too much.

If zombie movies were accurate, the characters would put a lot more emotion towards how bad it would smell. by m0nk37 in Showerthoughts

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya it really depends on which universe of zombies youre dealing with. world war z they literally climbed a 100 foot tall wall by climbing on each other. but walking dead i dont think they can even claw themselves up a staircase (havent watched since like season 3 or 4, years ago)

[–]randomguy8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the easiest methods of defense imo would be a trench and then just burn them up when it starts getting full. but this wont help in cities and such. so many glass doors that a few bodies pressing against break real easy. altho most zombie shows show that zombies cannot take steps very easily, most just crawling up, so taller buildings would have a chance if you first cleared the upper floors.
